Because that's all there was. And the last games before ACNH that I played were PacMan, Space Invaders, and Asteroids, decades ago. Are there any other Gen X people here? 
I have been playing for awhile and really love this game.
I live in the eastern part of the USA but my island is wintry Southern Hemisphere. Unfortunately, I joined too late to have all the wonderful mush recipes. I'm working on a fairy tale/children's literature theme. My villagers are Agnes, Colton, Fang, Fauna, Felicity, Kidd, Prince, Skye, Sterling, and Vivian.
Anyway, I'm glad to be here and look forward to reading the threads and having a place to ask questions. Thank you!
