I'm just a ghost.
Since the update and DLC has been out for a week now I figure I would give my thoughts on what I think about it. This thread may contain spoilers so if you don't want to be spoiled click away from the thread.
The first thing I checked out when the 2.0 update came out was Brewster, since that was the NPC that everyone wanted. To get Brewster you first have to have your museum upgraded and have donated a bug, fish, sea creature, and piece of art. Lastly you must've had K.K Silder visit your island in order to trigger the mission to find Brewster. To do this talk to Blathers and he will mention how there was no sign of Brewster and you basically have to find him. Thats when you find Kapp'n by your dock and he will give you a ride to an island (its important to note that he will not let you ride if you haven't been to any nook mile island). Once you get to the island you will find Brewster wandering around, go and talk to him, tell him that Blathers sent you and he will accept your request and he gives you a Gyroid in return. You go back to Blathers and he will be glad you found him and he has to close the Museum for a couple days and then thats when you finally unlocked Brewster and the Roost.
So Brewster functions pretty much the same from past AC games, you can go up to him to get coffee and when you have gotten coffee from him multiple times he will start warm up to you and offer you Pigeon Milk, can give diys for cooking recipes, and having a coffee on the go. Sadly you cannot work for him like you could in New Leaf which is a shame. The amiibo feature is really great and you invite literally every villager and missing NPC that you want to have in the Roost so that really makes up for it. Overall Brewster being added was a nice thing because it gives backstories on NPCs and Villagers.
Next NPC to make a return was Kapp'n and oh boy I have so much to say about this. Let me address the elephant in the room, there are no online mini games with Kapp'n just like in New Leaf so that was a major blow when I found out about this. Kapp'n Tours is a mixed back for me. To me it just seems like Nook Mile Islands 2.0 but you are looking for different seasonal islands with different DIYS. On one hand it is useful to find materials and if your lucky to find an island that has seasonal materials or diys you are looking for, but on one other hand it can feel like luck based when you try looking for island and it doesn't seem to come up often. Also you cannot find villagers on Kapp'n Tours. The good thing is whenever you're riding with him, you can mash B to skip singing and when you have multiple users you can go on a boat trip with Kapp'n as many times as you want. Overall, Kapp'n feels underwhelming while it is cool to go to seasonal islands I was hoping he had more to offer.
Harvs island is no longer useless, now that they added in a shop plaza to it. So basically you have all these gyroids that are accepting donations, but you can only do them once per day. They will unlock shops to familiar NPCs that you remember seeing on your island and they will unlock other shops for returning NPCs like Katrina and Tortimer. I have to say my favorite has to be Reese and Cyrus, because now you can customize any furniture item you wanted. Before it used to be annoying having to restart your island to get different variants but now with Cyrus's help you no longer have to do that, you can just customize the item that does cost bells but its a fast and simple thing. All the other shops like Saharah, Kicks, Leif, and Redd are there, but if they are on your island they will not shop up to the plaza. This is a much welcome change.
They added more other things like the workout area at Resident Services, More Storage Space, a lot of new reactions, and new features like the Storage Shed to store away items on the go and ABD to deposit or withdraw bells, Lastly they added cooking which I am not too keen on but its good for those who like it so much. This update feels so much needed and it was great to have the game feel a lot more better. So I am pretty much impressed with this update. If I were to rate it I will give it like a 8.5/10 there are other stuff that could've been better, but I enjoyed my time with this update along with the DLC.
