I started drawing "for real" in December of 2009, the day before Christmas. I stopped by Wal-Mart and got a drawing and a sketch pad, along with some regular quality writing pencils. Since I've upgraded to the best products (or amongst them), I've gotten better. Thanks to Christmas money, I stopped by Micheal's Arts and Crafts and went crazy with my 50 dollars.

Seriously, these are like those "beginner pictures", I've got way better.

Here are two of my newer ones But I'm working on one right now, that I believe, is much better in pencil, at least as far as realism goes.

I'll put them in order of first to last. The teacup was the first drawing I've ever spent more than an hour on, I guess. It took three hours believe it or not. With no blending stumps or techniques, believe me, it was hard to achieve that look. It's not good, but I posted it just to show beginning to where I am now, which is on the other topic I made about my two drawings.

I omitted some pastel drawings and my first real portrait of myself. My aunt has it as a birthday gift, because she likes the fact that I like to draw.

Check out my newest ones on the next thread if you haven't, ten times better than these. I'm working on two at a time now.

Teacup-- 12/24/09 (2-3 hours)

An old picture of my dad I drew, doesn't really look like him, got smudged while it was hanging in his hospital room. He was there for nearly four months. (1/17/10) Pastel Drawing

A partially unfinished picture I drew of my dad and mom back in the 80's. It's not well; we laugh at it because my dad looks like an alien. It's the unfinished, distorted part. (4-5 hours) Partially in Pastel

They still need a bit work.

But the Vivi, apple cup, and Santa ones were good. :)

I like Santa and Vivi.
Vivi was done in some old regular colored pencils, and Santa was really my first pastel drawing. I've tried to do portraits in pastel, but I just don't like 'em.

Hence the older pictures. I'm improving, and I posted this to show it, but thanks. ^^

I feel like a douche for saying this but...Only the dad one and Santa are even remotely good...

Then again I never had an eye for art.

Yes you are a douche
Don't worry, art is all about opinions and taste, one piece of art cannot suit everyone's taste.

Art is all about opinions and taste, one piece of art cannot suit everyone's taste, but that doesn't mean you have to be a douche about it.

lol

Yeah Marcus.

I really don't mind if you think they suck, because my own mind has already critiqued them enough. I thought my newest completed drawing didn't turn out well at first...but I got over it. I can't compare myself to the greatest artists who've had years of experience, rather than 4 months.

They're old and they are what they are.

How do you decide what you're going to draw by the way?
Good question, and you're not the first to ask.

I really don't have an answer to that, because in my mind, drawing comes freely. Why did Michelangelo sculpt a lifesize naked man?

No, I'm not saying I'm him, but I really try to take it serious. Everyone starts somewhere.

But if there was an answer, there are just these factors:

*I try to make a face everyone can recognize, a good goal for myself, and will push me to do better initial sketches

*I might see that person on TV or hear their music or watch a movie and want to draw them, spontaneously

*It's fun to see people point out who you've drawn, because they know if it turns out well enough.

*I may like the movie that actor/actress played in.

*I like their music if they're a singer, which is why I'm drawing Paul McCartney and Billy Joel next, and I've got plans for more. I chose them for the gray scale look.

*As far as anything else goes, I'll draw pretty faces, old people, great singers, popular people, inspirational people, anything that floats into my mind. It's really more a subconscious idea.

I just noticed, you posted your drawings after i made my topic xD.

I love everything but the sketch. : D

WOW! These are all very nicely done! *claps*

@SSgt Garrett everyone is entitled to their opinion but you could have said yours just a liiittle bit nicer.

@Jas0n I don't think you're in much of a position to be calling somebody a "douche." I've noticed you haven't been the nicest person when it comes to critiquing in the past.

These were all done several months ago, I just ended up posting this after I posted my newer ones. I've got one almost finished but I really wanted to use regular pencils again, as I haven't completed a full pencil drawing since...well my self portrait, the first portrait, so I'm working on Paul McCartney's picture now. So far so good, I'll let ya know when its done.
