I'm just a ghost.
Its been 10 days since the DLC has been out so I figured I would finally give my thoughts on it since I completed it like two times, since the first time was me learning how everything works and 2nd time was taking what I learned and taking advantage of it. I will warn that there is spoilers so if you don't want to see the outcome click away from the thread. I will include them but they will be hide away so that way anyone who accidently clicked on the thread will not see them.
So Happy Home Paradise is basically a improved version of Happy Home Designer from the 3DS. I would like to state for the record that I have played Happy Home Designer before Happy Home Paradise came out so let me just say it is a massive improvement from the old one. Let me explain:
So with Happy Home Designer its basically the same where you have to make a lot of homes, but its that you're in a small town and you have to make a lot of homes and of course build facilities. However the only difference is that unlike Happy Home Paradise the game was not linked to New Leaf. Which was a shock to me, because the game looks and feels like I'm playing New Leaf, but its just me designing homes. I never really felt rewarded. It didn't have much currency and anything that made you wanna do it. I got through the game and even though I liked the design aspect it just felt shallow also the Design tool you use from the 3DS was pretty dated and didn't offer much.
With Happy Home Paradise it fixes a lot of the issues HHD had where you actually get rewarded for making so many client homes. You get new currency and the biggest change was its linked to New Horizons so you can get exclusive items and bring it back to your island. So it gives you more a reason to keep making homes to earn more Poki (the new Currency). So it plays pretty much identical to HHD but the biggest change is that you're on a Island Resort and you can so much more with the homes than you can in HHD. You change the look of the Home, add Divider Walls, and with New Horizons new decorative tool it was so much more better organize stuff and put them where they want to go. It felt like such a great improvement.
Once you unlock certain features while building a lot of client homes you will be able to learn new DIYS, get a lot of the new items using poki, and finally when you build all 4 Facilities at the Resort DJ KK will show up and preform a musical special and thats when you get credits, but thats not all when you go back to your island Tom Nook will allow you to customize your villager homes and Isabelle will be able to revert any home you have an issue with back to normal.
If there was one complaint I have is that it does start to get repetitive once you are done making a lot of client homes. It can feel like you are doing the same thing over and over. Some of the villager themes may not make sense and you sometimes struggle to come up with what they want, but for me personally I would take it pretty simple and not try to over complicated the design. Also I only go to the Resort to get items on a daily bases so I do have a reason to go back there despite not making much client homes.
In Conclusion Happy Home Paradise is a massive improvement over Happy Home Designer, it fixes a lot of the issues people had with it and it feels a lot more easy and smooth to get used to. The fact that its linked with a mainline Animal Crossing game is a huge plus for it. So if I were to rate this DLC I would give it a solid 9/10 it was so much fun and its pretty addicting.
