I recently posted this in the Resetting Thread, but as someone with a pretty big passion for farming, I thought that a farm-themed profiile on one of my AC games would be awesome, especially with me wanting to do more farm-related things with my life. Of course, my first idea was to transfer this idea over to NH, but I do have a few problems with that. Firstly, I've poured a lot into my island, including a TON of terraforming and the like. I'm not sure if I want to just get rid of that. Not to mention that I love my villagers, island rep, and the like. Though, I find myself getting bored with NH a lot, and the newest update announcement extinguished a lot of hopes that I had for the future of the game, and since I already have a pretty developed island, future updates wouldn't really matter if I have something I'm content with. Getting another copy of NH is completely out of the picture for me, as they're way too expensive and money is very tight atm, I considered moving things over to my copy of NL, since I haven't played that game in a loooooong time and all of the villagers I want for the theme are available in NL. However, the NL community over here is a lot smaller than the NH community, so I'm a bit skeptical on how well that island will actually turn out, especially my idea of it, considering that NL doesn't have terraforming and the like. I feel as if with NH, I'd be able to get everything I need a bit more quickly, but I also don't want to rush this island. With NL, I've played it about a bajillion times, so I'm not missing out on anything, to be completely honest. I'm also a bit worried that if I do it on NL, it'll end up just getting abandoned like the other towns I've decided to start.

Altogether, the decision has been difficult for me. Should I move this new idea to NH or NL? Any advice is appreciated!

Here’s the thing, we can all make cute towns in NL and have fun day to day activity. However, just the sheer amount of farm decor and the fact that you can actually grow freaking pumpkins maybe more in the future makes it seem like a no brainer to me.

The amount you can do for a farm themed island is ridiculous even if it’s not actual fruits or veggies like using the purple hyacinth as a lavender farm, watermelon beach balls for melons, orchards, actual pumpkins, mushrooms.

The custom designs that go with this make the possibilities limitless when it comes to farm themed islands.

In my opinion i would use NH for the new farm themed island and then have a more casual game in NL. And plus you’ll get to revisit NL which is such a treat as that game is pretty wonderful!

If I were you, I would start renovating smaller parts of your NH island to fit the farm theme you're wanting -- personally I wouldn't want to fully reset my island, knowing how much work I spent terraforming/etc. so instead of fully flattening and redoing everything, just work on small sections at a time.

I also agree that the choice would be pretty clear to make this farming island in New Horizons. You have so many more options for making that happen. Outside decor isn't really a thing in New Leaf aside from the public works projects

I would say you’d have more options picking NH from the custom design options alone. Plus you don’t know what the future updates may hold, we finally got pumpkins so I’m hoping we’ll get other crops too, I’d love to have a small cornfield on my island!
Maybe try a few things out on your current island like someone has already mentioned and see where that takes you.
The last thing you want is to reset entirely and feel overwhelmed. Unless you feel like you’re wanting a different airport etc.

This would be what I would suggest. I'd even say to start with a small part, and go from there. Maybe make one small farm (maybe you could add a side character, or designate a villager to be a farmer?) and go from there. If you fall madly in love with it and decide you want a full farm island, cool! Or you might find it alone satisfies your farm craving.

I actually did that on my own island. When Ava moved in, I made a tiny farm for her. I'm planning to move her out soon-ish (love her, but I've had her for awhile), but I'll be replacing her with another "farmer" to keep the farm alive. Here's a pic, if you're curious:

It's just below my orchard, and right above my farmer's market. Not very big, but super cute, and just what I needed for my island! Ava also has a music hobby, so I love how she seems like a jolly farmer singing while she works ☺

When she moves, I'm planning to replace her with Peggy. Her farm might be a bit more overgrown, though, as she also has popstar dreams to pursue.

Also, IDK if you play The Sims 4, but the latest expansion pack will definitely satisfy any farming cravings 😛

Thanks for the advice! I'm considering upgrading my Switch Online to the family plan so I could help my boyfriend get his second Nintendo account online, so I'm hoping that I could just create another Nintendo account and hook it up to that so I can have two islands, keeping my old one and making the new one! As for New Leaf, I'm definitely going to plan something with it, but I don't know yet.

You actually need two Switches to have two islands. Another copy of the game, and another profile, unfortunately don't work for this. It's a device save, strictly.
That said, I think NH will be more rewarding. Transparent designs, simple panels, actual growing of something that isn't a tree or flower ... I feel the opportunities are just better. Not to mention the ability to landscape your water where you want it to be, so in theory, you can make a little pond where you can ' water crops ' from, and the fencing you can put around crops or around a horse, cow, or pig villager's home on your farm ...

As others have said, I think NH is a no-brainer here.

If you're really unsure, use an empty or easily discernable design, laying it on the ground or dig holes and count out the grid of your island's current terraforming.
Use a graph paper or Google sheets, similar to
this.

This way, if you're unhappy with the changes and feel disappointed and uninspired to make something new after the potential teardown, you can use your grid map to remake it!

What about keeping your NH save file and putting a farm on there? My island has a town, farm, and woodland area!

Dang, that stinks. Just another complaint with the Switch, I suppose. Well, I'm fairly certain that I'm going to reset at this point. My island's getting kinda stale, at least in my opinion.

My issue with that is that my island already has a "tropical resort" theme, and a new island would better suit my needs, as I'd like all-new villagers and the like.

I'm disappointed, but I've decided to just add another resident to my island, which I didn't want to do, but I most certainly don't have money for another switch and don't want to reset what I have :/

Maybe you could try a more "tropical" farm? With coconuts and cocoa trees and stuff? Could be cute!

And, like I said, if making one farm only whets your appetites, then you might eventually realize you do want to reset. Worst case scenario, you don't like it and wasted some time. But if you do reset, just make it's what you REALLY want, since there's no going back.

And I agree, it stinks that we can't have multiple islands per Switch 😒

Hmm, can't say I thought of that! I may try it out, as it's still a farm nonetheless! And if I want it to be super realistic (which I don't, it's Animal Crossing :p) I could always justify getting things via import or something like that. I may try it out!

Yah, I suddenly thought of the beach farm in Stardew Valley (idk if you play it, lol) and thought something like that could work. I Googled "tropical farm" images and sandy fields with palm trees lining them and lots of plants popped up. You could make something overgrown, with fields on the lighter dirt or sand path, maybe toss in some bamboo and tropical fruit trees like oranges... And I think cocao plants would be ESPECIALLY perfect. The little bags they're in look so perfect for farms!

The more I think about it, the more I kinda wanna make one 😝 But it wouldn't fit my island at all, lol

I've been trying to terraform and put some farm areas on my island, but my current layout just isn't working. More likely than not, I'm going to reset.
