Just out of curiosity how many years from now do you think it will be before the companies start to announce they are starting to work on next gen systems? and who do you thinkll be first....

My guess:

Time: 2-3 years

Companies in order : (1) Microsoft ... (2) Sony.... (3) Nintendo...

thats my guess whats yours...

It's hazy. The system specs for each of the systems are pretty different, so it's hard to tell if there'll even be a relatively synchronised release.

The Wii's hardware... won't last. It's already showing the fact that it's hopelessly outclassed in terms of the audiovisual experience the other two systems offer. However, it's also the cheapest and seems to be selling quite well at the moment. The other consoles- particularly Sony's attempt- are no-so-cheap, and thus it seems likely that they could end up being around for a while longer than the Wii.

But who knows? Nor cares, since PC gaming is where it's at, man.

:p

5 years, and sony won't release anything, because by then, they will have so many losses from PS3 they won't be able to.

10-20 years. I dunno.
... 20 years? >_>

Dude, put things into perspective. 20 years ago from 2006, the Sega Master System was released. There's no way that the hardware market would remain so inert.

5 years, and sony won't release anything, because by then, they will have so many losses from PS3 they won't be able to.
I was waiting for someone to reply with that. Like clockwork.

All three companies have already announced that they're working on the next systems. Nintendo was first with the announcement, Microsoft next, and then Sony, but all of the announcements had low publicity. All we know is that Nintendo is experimenting with some VR helmets... Hmm...

As for WHEN the systems will come out, that will be in a good 5 years, maybe earlier in the Wii's case. The PS3 might be able to stay in the race for a good 10 years, maybe just a bit less, and still contend with the next-next gen platforms due to its raw power.

4-6 years.

NES: 1985
SNES: 1991
N64:1996
Cube:2001
Wii:2006

PS: 1995
PS2: 2000
PS3: 2006

XBox: 2001
360: 2005

As you can see, every system comes out 4-6 yrs. after the one before it.

Random fact that you reminded me of with that chart... The NES was in production for more than 10 or so years.

VR HELMETS!!!!!!

That'd be awesome.

Well as far as I can tell Nintendo and Microsoft will be releasing a new system in 4 to 6 years as normal, while the attempted "future proof" PS3 might not get a successor until Sony finally realizes that it couldn't match the technology of 5 years into the future because of how exponentially things are growing nowadays. I mean honestly, I carry around 32 gigabytes worth of info and memory on most days, and it fits in my pocket! Who knows what the realm of technology will have for us by then, I will probably be able to have a laptop as powerful as the desktop I built myself with near top of the line products last year, I could also probably get a PDA as powerful as my current laptop....

Speaking of cool technology tough, I love those full body suits made to help people walk and move that the Japanese made. Fully robotic suits that respond to you moving a little, that sort of thing was said to be great for people who say lost a leg in a war or things like that, that is pretty cool

Yah the PS3 could stay in there i dont know ..... it depends how fast technology is going to move if its gonna make it affordable to make something more powerful...... random thought the ps3 doesnt sound much different than the bulky model PS2 it sounds like a vacuum still
