I haven't played all of the games in the series, only New Leaf and New Horizons, but I believe we've been given more control over things with each new title.
When New Leaf was out, people generally didnt like how villagers would place their housing plots randomly. We wanted the ability to choose our skin colors and have more customization. We wanted to be able to place decor outside. People would reset for days or even weeks to get that perfect river shape or the location of the shops.
With New Horizons they gave us all of that and more. Despite all of the freedoms, some people dont like it and think it's too much now. Cant please everyone I suppose, but I personally like the level of control we've been given. The more customization, the better! (But I do respect that part of the charm of the older games wasnt having control over every little thing and you just had to like what you ended up with).
What I'm curious about is do you think we've reached the limit as far as how much control and customization they are going to give us? Are we going to have even more control in the next title, or do you see Nintendo more "returning to it's roots" and taking away some of the control and encouraging us to kind of accept whatever hand of cards we're dealt.
