I got to thinking the other day after playing F-Zero GX, "Wow, this game is really hard on the Gamecube controls. This would not work well with the Switch joycons." The game is very demanding on the controller with the constant stick movement and trigger pressing due to its fast pace that I can see it not performing well with Switch joycons as well as probably damaging them in the long term considering how fragile they already are.

What are some ports from past Nintendo games you think would not work well with the Switch? Something with motion controls that the joycons couldn't capture as accurately? A game that would be too much for the joy cons? Maybe something that would just feel too weird on it.

Old Mario Parties with mini games that required you to spin your control stick in a circle really fast or repeatedly mash A as fast as you can

But they already have a button masher style minigame in Super Mario Party for the Switch and that works well enough. Not too sure about the first but with the way the remotes are poorly designed, I would probably not want to have to be forced to be really rough like that on the control stick {spinning it around in circles really quick I mean}.

oh yeah. also i already don't like playing 3d mario's on any console so yeah that would be a no-no for me regardless. i mean i already tried SMO and the camera was hell.

but ye re mario parties, at least the old ones had some precision games/button stuff that i don't think would work with current engines.

Nintendo Land, for obvious reasons. It was specifically designed with the Wii U gamepadโ€™s unique features in mind.

I understand what is intended here...but, I honestly think that anything could be made to work on Switch. Some things would require more effort than others...but there is always a way to swap specific features for other ones that work similarly well. I mean...nobody would have expected a game like X-Com to work well on a console like Xbox or Playstation...but it goes without saying that X-Com and X-Com 2 both did incredibly well on consoles, despite having obvious strengths suited towards PC. I think Switch ports are the same way. You might lose functionality that you had on a DS or Wii U game...but you can almost always have a successful port anyway (assuming the game itself is strong enough). I'm hard-pressed to think of any real functionality that would be completely lost on a Switch. There seems to always be a way around just about anything.

I understand what you mean! I never thought games like Witcher III, Overwatch or Bioshock would make their way over to the Switch, but there they are. I still think the controller part is a big issue for a lot of games though. It just can't capture the same feel as a Wii remote's motion controls or the sturdiness of a Gamecube controller for demanding games that require constant stick movement and trigger pressing. Sure another controller is an option, but not so much for portable handheld mode or people who don't want to dish out money for another. I can't personally really play Smash Ultimate with the joycons and that's a modern game. I immediately resort to a Gamecube controller.

I really hate that in games. I just don't do it on my console and let myself lose so l don't cause trouble with controls. That is also a thing l won't ever try with joy cons.
