Gamers have been waiting years for Nintendo to finally release its Wii successor, and Game Informer has heard from multiple sources that the company will unveil it at E3 this summer if not sooner.

We have confirmed with multiple sources that this new home system is capable of running games at HD resolutions. There are conflicting reports, however, as to whether its graphics will be comparable to those on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 ? meaning it could surpass or fall short of those systems. Either way it will offer competitive specifications. Moving to HD should greatly help Nintendo and its new console in getting more multi-platform triple-A titles like Portal 2 or Mortal Kombat. This, in turn, will strengthen Nintendo's historically poor relationship with third-party publishers/developers...

..."Nintendo is doing this one right," said an anonymous source. "[It's] not a gimmick like the Wii."

It begins!

"Nintendo looks to recapture the hardcore market"

*chills*

Sounds good to me.

Doubt it will be able to meet the standards of PS3/Xbox but hey, It could still be good.

Hmm...
Rumors are rumors so it may not happen?

Multiple sources, multiple confirmed sources. I mean, think about it, the Wii is undergoing another price cut soon. This gen has lasted longer than previous ones. On the side of Microsoft, a few devs have been working with new tech from their side.
This is where the next gen is starting up!

in before hardcore still doesn't give half a flying **** what nintendo does/makes and the wii2 is born, for a new generation of rabid fanboys to defend

And so it begins. :0

If the "Wii HD" is better than the PS3 and the 360, wouldn't the next gen PS3 and 360 out run the "Wii HD?" :/ Just a thought.

Probably, but it really won't matter much at that point. With the Wii successor being capable of even better graphics than the current HD consoles (which are already crazy good), there's not going to be a whole lot of difference if Sony or Microsoft release a console with even better graphical capability. 1080p HD is already insanely high detail, and we've pretty much reached a plateau when it comes to graphics. There's not really all that much room to improve in the graphics department as it is, so my guess is that this 8th generation of video game consoles will be very close in terms of graphics. Instead of battling over graphics, the true console war will begin with the software and features of the system, which is what it should always come down to, in my opinion. Assuming Nintendo will continue to bring AAA content to their next console, and that the system brings more innovations to the table (such as the touch screen on the controller), I'd say Nintendo's gonna be a huge threat to their competition this time around. (As if they weren't already, and that's with an underpowered console, no less!)

You must really love Nintendo.

True that, true that. Good point. Hope and pray that E3 confirms these rumors. :/

Well yeah, I don't give a crap about graphics but It shouldn't be terrible. Also as Tye said I think features matter more. The top Wii's features were Wi-Fi Internet, Online Market, Mii Channel and I think that's basically it. The Xbox and PS3 have most of the Wii's feature and even more and if the next gen can have most of those features and something new then yeah, It could be a threat. Hopefully this time it won't be all childish like the Wii.

The towering pile of rumors regarding Nintendo's next generation console, supposedly to be announced at E3, continues to grow today with a report from French news site 01net (which divined the hardware specs of the NGP before its official unveiling). Citing unnamed sources, the site claims the system is currently codenamed "Project Caf?," and adds that it does feature hardware resembling that of the Xbox 360, such as a three-core IBM PowerPC CPU.

The real meat of the report isn't in the specs of the console, but rather, its controller. According to 01net, the peripheral will feature a six-inch single-input touchscreen -- which corroborates a similar report published by CVG yesterday. The French site also says the controller features a standard set of buttons, a front-mounted camera (what?) and can even function as a Wii sensor bar, should the player choose to indulge in the console's built-in backwards compatibility. That's actually pretty believable -- after all, the same effect can be achieved using a pair of candles.

How do we don't know this won't be a simple upgrade like there was from DS to DS Lite? lol we'll see...

I reread that article.. **** all that stuff. Touch screen, camera?! Get out, this isn't going forward if this is true.

So basically the controller would be like a long iPod touch.
