Started the game on December 18 and have no lights on cedar trees. Does that mean I can't participate in toy day festivities? Can I fix this or is it that if you didn't start before 15th you're out of luck? Please help. I so wanted to experience the holiday season things. Thanks

I’m 99.9% sure to experience the holiday festivities, you need to have an upgraded resident services (building, not a tent) as Isabelle puts the lights on the cedars. If you are able to unlock resident services on the next 2-3 days, I’m pretty sure you will get lighted cedars. Then, if you are connected to the internet and your copy of ACNH has the most recent update installed, you will be able to fully experience toy day.
Actually there are tons of cedars . It's a new island so I haven't cut anything yet. Thanks.

I just found out how to make specific cedar tree to have lights.
Everyday there will be some cedar tree have lights on it(for my island I think it's 3-5). The lights will be randomly put on the cedar trees.
If you want specific tree A to have lights, you can eat fruit and remove the tree B(already have lights but the tree is not on the position which you need lights) and plant the tree B again on it's original position, then Tree B's lights will gone.
Then you save and close the game and reopen the game again, the lights will randomly show on another tree.
So, you can remove batch of the trees with lights on them at once, and see if the lights allocate to the specific trees you want.
I tested it, and it works.
