Once online play and WiiConnect24 are discontinued within this game and ACWW, I forsee a sudden crisis in the game's economy. And I'm sure I'm not alone in this, since it's really common sense to anyone who understands capitalist economics.

The end of online play would universally mean the end of trade- And trade, whether legitimate or hacked/duped- Is essential to the common economy of this game. After all, to be able to trade items that cannot be gotten from the catalogue, or just to be nice, means that wealth is generated in both towns, by both parties. The destruction of trade, even by mail in-game, would mean that the economy splits into millions of nanoeconomies, whereby the economy only exists within one game.

As such, I predict that the game's economy, without giveaways or trade, will mean that people will have to turn to ACToolkit and Action Replay to compensate for the loss of trade. This in itself would bring the already hyperinflated economy in the game to crash, since everything will be worthless, and the net export product staying in that town will make even a golden axe worthless in that town. In other words, megahyperinflation that cannot be rectified.

What are your thoughts on this?

as far as i know, online play won't be discontinued for 3ds systems. only everything earlier...

what economy

the wifi still works for new leaf just not wild world or city folk
its not like people actively traded and stuff on those 2 anyway

Uhh, 3DS online isnt being ended. Only for Wii and DS, haha.

That is EXACTLY what I meant. ACCF=Wii game. ACWW=original DS game. I made absolutely no mention of ACNL.

^^ yeah if you aren't talking about acnl then there really isn't an economy to speak of.
i'm sure some people still trade and such, but not nearly as much as they used to, and not nearly enough to really make a difference in things.

also!! to add on, you said

and since this is a new leaf forum, i think a lot of us assumed you meant acnl as "this game". just to clear that up. ^_^

actually this is the general ac discussion forum, not the new leaf forum. so all animal crossing games and discussions fall here :3

but anyways cx

eh. i never traded or played online in either city folk or wild world. I was a big wild world player, but definitely not so much for city folk. the only time I went online on wild world was to visit my friends town to buy off her shop, and then for her to come to mine to buy from mine to get the full expansion of nookington's. I don't even believe I went online once on city folk, lol.
to be honest I don't care if they shut the DS and Wii wifi off. everyone is mostly playing new leaf now, and I don't know anyone who actively trades on city folk or new leaf, unless they just recently bought the games.
the only bad thing is now you can't do online specific things like katie (and to this day I still have never done the Katie quest).

that's just my opinion.

I always had (and maybe still do?) a WPA2 Wi-Fi connection and could never go online on WW unless I had a friend nearby.. in like 4th grade, a friend came over and brought her DS and we played and that was probably the only time I went online, I was always so bummed about it. There was already a town on my used DS & WW came with it so I left the town since I didn't really want to start over when this guy had already gotten Nookington's and a big house. I never upgraded the house much, I wasn't good at bell making on that game.

As for CF I had wanted the game for a while but my boyfriend at the time was playing it often so I bought it used off Amazon and honestly, it's been a year and a half since we broke up and I haven't played it since. I don't even use my Wii anymore, and we just went in each other's towns to screw around I can't remember making any progress on that game either because the Wii controllers weren't very fun to play with.

But if this bums people out, I'm sorry D:
