1. From what I know, no it's not. It looks really cool but it doesn't do anything.

2. They do and they don't, you'll still keep your rank points but you will lose spending points.

and i'm not sure about the rest, i'm buying each of them one by one when I get enough nook points for each I just bought the bad bro stache a few days ago so thats where I am at.

I believe you get 1 point for every 100 bells you spend. The machine in Nook's will tell you.

I took a big advantage of Nook's 5x points days. Spent 100,000 bells and got 500,000 bells worth of points, which was 5,000 points.

You can also get some number of points each day you visit the store by checking the machine and requesting "Visitor points."

I bought all the items and all i had to do was go to Tom Nooks when there is a point special where you gain 5 times the total amount and then all i did was sell all my things and fish and fruit and after i bought everything in the store i would time travel and day after and then go time travel back to the point special day and buy everything again and again until i got enough point to buy whatever i wanted and i even reached to be a platinum member.Hope this helps for those who want to get the itmes quick

to summarize...

1) the bell to point ratio is 100:1

this means every 100 bells you spend, you get 1 point.

2) purchases made from the catalog DO count towards your point total (both rank and total/spendable)

3) each day you may choose "visitor points" to gain and extra +3 points in your own town, or +5 points in another person's town

4) the rank points never decrease

5) the total (spendable) points will decrease if you exchange them for items.

think of it as earning certain points for your purchases which you can then trade in. if you earn 1000 points, you may exchange for a 500 point item or a 1000 point item, but not both since you would need to earn a cumulative 1500 points to trade for both.
