So a theme of the past Animal Crossing games is NPC character growth. Slowly, we've seen them change over the course of several games.

Tom Nook: He went from a small shack owner and landlord to full-on Home Retailer.
Tommy & Timmy: They've gonna from assisting Tom to inheriting his general store business.
K.K. Slider: We've seen him grow from a small time guitar player outside a train station, to playing in coffee shops, to becoming a DJ.
Lyle: "Insurance" salesman to a respectable retailer and member of the HRR.
Dr. Shrunk: Random person who was visiting your town, to theater star, to club owner.
Able Sisters: We've slowly befriended them to learn about Labelle, who ran off to work for Gracie but has now since made up with them and now works alongside them.
Kicks: Random shoeshine boy to a shoe salesman with his own shop.
Tortimer: Old man determined to stay mayor who finally retired in New Leaf.

...and so on.

So my question is, who will we see grow next? Whose turn is it? And which character(s) do you think will experience further growth in the Switch installment? Who do you want see grow?

As mentioned before in a different thread, I would like to see Redd take on a small fox son apprentice. How adorable would he be? And he could very desperately want to be friends with Timmy and Tommy. It's just so cute, I have heart eyes thinking about it!

Also, I'd like it if Isabelle had a few days off. Maybe her roll will change and she'll get to have days to herself.

I'd also like to see Lottie have a bigger roll in this new game, but I'm not sure what I'd like to see her doing.
 
I love the idea of a Redd Jr. who doesn't actually want to scam the player. Like maybe they're rude to your face but honest?

Anyway, I want to see a lot more of the Blathers family. Maybe he frequently leaves the village for archaeology digs or something, or Celeste becomes like... an astronaut?
 
It'd be interesting to see Katie become a travel agent. She has seen the world, now she can recommend the best sights.
 
Slightly related but I hope they bring back "episodes" for the NPCs. It was in wild world and city Folk I think where sometimes the NPCs would talk about their backgrounds and you would learn more about their personality and life.

Doesn't that kinda happen in nl with the roost? its where i learned that Phyllis is only mad because she's so overworked and had we been mayor she'd have been a lot more happy, and tom nook is actually a good raccoon, and cares for timmy and tommy...
 
I would love Celeste to have a bigger role again in the Switch game, maybe she could have her own observatory separate from the museum and it could maybe have something else in there too like a shop? I’d also like Gulliver to have his own store, maybe selling various items from his travels.
 
I would like to see Kapp'n grow. Maybe this time he could be a pilot, where he flies you to different places such as the island.
 
Isabelle being the mayor.

Let's face it, she's doing a lot more then the player who is supposed to be the mayor and I
wouldn't mind if she gets a promotion, becoming the new mayor of the town. Or alternative,
if the player is the mayor again, she can at least be the deputy mayor. For all the work she's
doing, she deserve a promotion (or at least some free time).

Celeste also needs her observatory back. In my opinion, it's was a huge step backwards to
take her away the observatory and gave her instead that boring job by at the second floor
of the museum. So I do hope they gonna fix this and give her back her old job with new
tasks. Maybe also give her a section at the museum which as something to do with space
and she takes care about it instead of Blathers, as she knows more about it then him.

As for Blathers, maybe give him the chance to going on adventures in Indiana Jones style,
maybe together with Gulliver, since he's also taveling around a lot? And they could then
tell and show the player what they found at their adventures.

Also, give Redd and Katrina a own shop right at the beginning.
 
I'd like making it so you can have multiple cities you can visit by plane (Operated by Kap'n ofc). Maybe you can choose the area of your city on a map and build the town from the ground up. Making you being mayor make more sense. Something like HHD where there are different biomes and terrain in certain areas and whatever spot you don't choose can be a visitable area for later. The game could start off with you talking to Rover about buying a plot of land off Nook (I think that's some good growth right there)
and you meeting up with Isabelle (Who will be helping to pay for all this because she gets to co-own) to get the land ready for buildings and stuff. The tutorial could be you using tools to clean up the town. (Pick weeds, Shake trees, catch bugs & fish, etc.)
Then, you could go talk to Katie about advertising your town so you can kind of choose who lives there. Maybe certain adverts would draw in snooty or jock villagers. (Since she travels so often, I think her advertising the traveling industry makes sense.) You can talk to Nook about the placement of homes (No more placing houses on hybrid gardens) and building PWPs.

Sorry that I wrote out the whole game concept but I feel like explaining everyone's job in detail helps paint a better picture of what this game could be.
