Welcome to the island! ​

My name is Myrthe, and I'll be your island representative during your stay. Make yourself at home and enjoy!

The island: Founded on March 19th, 2020: Oakheart. It is an island with no specific theme, although I mostly try to capture the vibe of the older AC games, so most of the island is rural and forest-like. That being said, Oakheart (very) slowly changes into a more developed island. But after about six months of playtime, the island is still quite bare with only about 2 areas finished and quite minimal terraforming.

Playstyle: There is no time travelling on this island. We like to take it slow and enjoy the game day by day. It is a place to go to when you need to unwind, relax and forget about the worries of the real world.

Journal
The upcoming days/weeks I'll slowly be posting screenshots I took since March. I tend to take a lot of them, during fun or memorable moments on the island. I'll be posting 'monthly' updates of the months that have passed, and after that I will post some photos of the island happenings in the recent past or current time. I like to keep track of everything and this will be a nice place for me to look back at later to see everything that has happened on the island. I hope this will turn into a full journal with a lot of memories. See you soon!

March
Oakheart was founded on March 19th. A day before launch: due to COVID the stores were closing in my city on March 20th, and they handed out their pre-orders a day early. I'm not really a fan of resetting to get the perfect town, so I decided I would give it maybe a few tries. But the first island I picked immediately had what I wanted: oranges and an orange airport. In retrospect, the island definitely isn't perfect, and there is some stuff I would've liked if it was differenct (peninsula placement, bigger beaches and boulders) but I can't bring myself to delete my town ever. So Oakheart will stay strong and I will work with whatever I was given, just like in previous installments.

I started my game in Dutch. It was the first time ever an Animal Crossing game got an actual Dutch translation. I later switched to English because I couldn't get used to it though. That does mean most animal conversations I had aren't in this post!



The map on March 22nd:

March is mostly focused around me exploring the game, celebrating the many openings of buildings and bridges and playing around with the camera function. I did get my first, (and so far only) meteor shower and double rainbow.

April
April was the month the island started to look a bit more civilized than before. There were a lot of celebrations and openings, my character started to get a better wardrobe and the museum started to get a more and more filled up. Of course, it was also the month of the first event: Bunny Day. I sorta enjoyed it, but in hindsight it's been the worst event we've had so far. Either way, enjoy my pictures!

I love it when my villagers are hanging out together, or when the town square is bustling with activity.
Portia had some remarks about Redd's boat, but I guess Lopez misheard and got offended, so he needed some dramatic alone time.

January 14th
I just played for a little bit this morning but wanted to share what happened.

I loaded up the game while I was cleaning my place to bop to the soundtrack until I heard a balloon fly by and I stopped to check it. It was a golden one! So I finally got my golden slingshot. It's my second golden tool and right now I have no idea how to get the rest. I assume you'll get the rod and net by completing the critterpedia, but I don't know how to get the axe and shovel. But I like surprises so don't tell me! I'll get them when I'll get them (or when I run out of patience and look it up).

Next, I headed out and helped out Labelle (hence the outfit). I went around and gave fruit gifts to the villagers I ran into, Claude gave me his photo! I put it up on the wall with the others. I have four photos now.

October 2021

Long time, no see... After January, I pretty much dropped the game. Unfortunately I wasn't really feeling it. The lack of gameplay (apart from decorating) left me a bit unfulfilled. But! I'm back. Like many others the direct blew me away and I can't wait for the update to drop and it's gotten me very excited and inspired to visit my island again.

I've been playing for a couple of days now and loving it again. I need 9 more fish, 9 more bugs and 4 more diving creatures to complete my museum (and a ton of art... but we don't talk about that here). So here I am on my dock looking for a Ray and a Giant Trevally.

It took me about 30 bait and I already got my Ray! That was way faster than I expected and I love that joke, lol.

I've been getting nothing but Pearls from Pascal lately so I thought I'd completed the mermaid set, but no! Today he gave me a mermaid chair. I love the mermaid set and am using it to make an over-the-top bathroom in my house, I'll post pictures if I ever finish it.

I've also really begun terraforming! It was always a bit scary to me to demolish and build up the entire island, but I've finally started a big project (and a small one). On the north-western side of my island, I'm making a big elevated "farm" - or "community garden". I want it to be really stretched out with forest vibes and lots of places for the villagers to relax and do activities, whilst also covered in the fields of the new vegetables. On the third tier I've put Nook's Cranny. I still have a lot of stuff to add but I'm pleasantly surprised with where it's going.

Finally, I'm also making a diving area. About 1.5 years too late lol. Diving is my favourite activity in game so it's about time I give it a proper space. Although I'm actually a bit lost and find the shape of my peninsula kinda awkward. But I hope I'll eventually get a very enlightened idea and fill it up in no time.

So far my current update, I'll probably be posting a lot more in the future - and definitely from november 5th onwards!

Some more screenshots from the past couple months. I've been dropping in & out of the game at random times so progress on the island is slow. Sometimes I forget to play for months, but I'm always happy to be back.

Happy Home Paradise
This week, I finally started the DLC. I bought it months ago, but really didn't go much further than Eloise's house. I wasn't sure if I wanted to get the DLC because I never cared for HHD on the 3DS, and sold it pretty quickly. But HHP really adds something and I like that I can collect more DIYs and furniture for my main island. I'm not the greatest designer but I like that it has a little storyline, the island looks beautiful and there's so many villagers to talk to. So I'm enjoying it for now. I can now also polish and make bigger rooms, and I know there's a lot more stuff to work towards so I will definitely keep playing.

Able Sisters​

The coming period, I want to show you some finished locations of the island! To start, the Able Sisters.
I think the bright and happy colours of the building really fit the beach vibe. You can enter the area by walking under the strings of light. There's some flowers and some spots to relax. I want to add some food items but I'm still waiting for the perfect recipe that really fits the vibe. I'm still really happy with how it looks. Simple but pretty.

Nobody was really interested in our rainstorm-group stretch this morning. Only Dotty and I kept our spirits up.
Then she told me she wanted to move away, pretty much right after. So apparently she had a double agenda. I said no, because we need at least one enthusiastic pop star on this island, even if it's just pretend. ​
