I. LOVE. OLIMAR.

Oh my... I have taken such a liking to Olimar. I'm even considering replacing Fox as my main for Olimar.

Why, you ask?

-Damage capabilities... You can get an opponent up to 100% in 10 seconds. (Literally.)
-Dair = amazing meteor smash gimpyness
-Versatility- each Pikmin has it's own attributes
-AMAZING aerials and fsmash
-Basically the best grabs/throws in the game with amazing range
-Some of the best aerial game around
-WAC is fun to play with and very useful (Look it up if you don't know)

His ONLY problem is:
-Tether recovery (Which really isn't as bad as you think)

I love his weight, since I'm used to Fox.

He's one of two characters (Ganondorf) that I still haven't gotten used to.

I had that problem a lot; he's not easy to master.

But I've been using him for 2 weeks now and just... Holy. Broken, he is.

:p
I was a hardcore Fox main in Melee.

I mean, I dunno... In Brawl, he just got a nerfbat to the face. No more waveshine, shinespiking is useless (partly), usmash is slower and weaker, and he feels slower. That's so hard to say because I love him so much and I've invested so much time into him that I feel bad I'm replacing him, but Olimar just has some amazing game that fits my style perfectly.

My friend played as Olimar this week and all he did was his whistle. He yells 'He's so stupid! His only move is a gay rainbow!'

xD

I was a Fox player in Melee too, but my overall main was Falco. The main reason I like Fox now is because his shine is more like his Melee form, rather than Falco's "kick shine." But overall I've gotten much better with Fox over the past week, and I think he may be one of my new mains. Olimar is up there, but there are definitely some things that hold him back and keep him from being broken.

Your friend is an idiot, then.

The whistle... So useful. WAC.

Plus, it rearranges your Pikmin, and if you can use that right, you can use your most powerful grabs, smashes, etc. at any given moment.

WAC, for those of you who don't know. Basically, it eliminates knockback.

Not as bad as I think? Dude.. i could take 1 stock out of your Olimar in less than 30 seconds with Kirby... one down air when you are recovering and your out. If I edgehog, your out.. There's so little you can do to recover with olimar...

Alright, here's my take on Olimar:

- Grabs: Good, if used properly with blue pikmin. Can be deadly, but it has slight lag which can be punished

- Air Attacks: F-air and d-air and u-air are all great, but if you're facing anybody with skill at juggling, let's just say Olimar is pretty screwed.

- Ground attacks: More good moves here depending on what Pikmin are in order, and smash attacks can be very strong with good range. Throwing Pikmin can also rack up damage, just watch out for reflectors.

- Recovery: This is what keeps Olimar from being broken. His recovery is utter crap. You must have a lot of pikmin to keep it at a decent length, and can easily be gimped. There's no denying it, it's just bad.

- Whistle: This is good for two things, rearranging your Pikmin, and for the invincibility frames. Other than that, it can be punished fairly easily, and should be used with caution. Air dodging or spot dodging is probably more useful.

- Overall: He's a good character, but his recovery really holds him back.

Btw, This is coming from someone who's mained Olimar from the beginning.

I've thought Olimar had potential, but I'm far to impatient to try and get good with him.

But personally, I love tether-recovery. Any time I use a character who has it, I'll jump off the edge on purpose, just because I love it so much.

Never knew his B-Down (That is the whistle, right?) could eliminate knockback. And I can't really tell from the clip, does it do counter-damage, or is he throwing a Pikmin?

Also never knew he had that much damage capability, I'll have to try it some time.

Pretty good use of tether to avoid Ganondorf's spike. Of course, the tether is pretty bad, but not entirely.

I wouldn't just allow you to dair me...

He got killed anyways.

It was probably a lucky shot, I'm sure he couldn't do that again if he tried.

There isn't any counter-effect, he's just using a fsmash.

True.

I mean, yeah, tether sucks. But dairing me isn't an option... Getting above Olimar is a bad idea.

Sure, getting above olimar is bad, but not off the edge, he's still not hard to edgeguard. At all. But getting below Olimar is bad for the Olimar player, so that's something you have to be very aware of as well.

That's what I thought.

Anyways after my sister is done doing the hussle to whatever the crap she's watching on TV, I think I'm gonna test Olimar out.

Edgeguarding rapes me, though.

To avoid it I do a Yoshi-type thing and use the tether for its forward momentum, not for the tether.

I do both actually, to mix it up a bit. It's a good idea though for sure.
