We all know what online classes are like, and some say it's an effective way to learn, others say it's not going to work so efficiently as physical classes. How does it feel experiencing online classes?

I, for one, always think that online classes can be a pain in the butt, and maybe can be a bit restraining, because it feels like you're on a holiday, but your teacher forces you to go to school anyways. It's even worse when I can't even have holidays, even if it's written on the calendar, unless if it's something super important (Malaysia Day for example).

Do you have a good experience with online classes, or do you just have a bad experience with them, and you couldn't take it anymore?

I’ve taken online classes in college. I kind of prefer them because of social anxiety. But you do have to have self discipline to get your work done and not get distracted by things like Facebook. It’s a little easier to stay focused during in person classes. I’ve taken both in person, and online classes in college in the past and have liked them both for different reasons. This was a several years before Covid started so online wasn’t the only option.

i’ve been doing school online since april of last year, and not only has my experience with it been positive for the most part, it’s honestly been a godsend for me lol. i suffer from pretty bad depression and anxiety, so attending school in-person has always been incredibly difficult for me; groupwork and presentations result in me having anxiety attacks, attending school on a daily basis is next to impossible due to my various issues, etc.

online school hasn’t been 100% easy for me either, but it is absolutely so much better than attending in-person was. i no longer have to really worry about presentations or groupwork, attending regularly has become easier as all i have to do is roll over and grab my phone, etc. the only thing that bothers me about it is when a teacher wants your camera to be on; i understand the reasoning behind it, but it definitely makes me pretty uncomfortable and anxious lol. thankfully though, the majority of my teachers have been fine with students’ cameras being off!

while i agree that online classes have their benefits, i miss having in person class. can't really have a chat with your seatmate while waiting for the professor to come in via zoom so it's hard to make friends. last sem i had a class that had a group chat but i didn't realize it until the last week of the semester so uh. there's that social aspect.

i do like that i can just attend class right after rolling out of bed! BUT it's also a lot more tempting to cut class since it would be so easy to not go? Because if you were already at school irl you'd be less tempted to ditch because you spent money commuting to school so you might as well attend so the bus fare would be worth it y'know?

and not really about the classes but more about my home environment... it's pretty hard to independently study at home? i used to go to the library all the time so my grades were pretty decent but now that i can't leave the house it's really been taking a toll on me academically.

so uh tldr online classes are mostly fine except you can't make friends but not being able to use the library is a pain in the butt haha

ive only taken online classes in college and personally prefer them because of the convenience. im living a good distance away from campus with my partner and like being able to turn in and complete my work at my own pace so i can still work and live my life without having to structure my entire schedule around them.

I've taken online classes and in person for uni. Online classes are extremely convenient for someone like me who works full time and still goes to school (bills are expensive yo). But, I definitely learn more in person, my attention span is so poor and my self motivation fluctuates from great to terrible on any given day. If I could focus completely on school, then I could see why that would be more enticing for people. (Plus I have anxiety and always fear going into a class that's gonna call on students for a whole semester.)

In terms of the set-up, it still needs some getting used to for me. I've been doing face-to-face classes in my whole life so having to listen to lectures without my classmates beside me just makes me feel like I'm not in an academic setting at all and kinda kills the mood. I'm not the most attentive person in class in any set-up, but idk, I've felt even lazier with studying. I also hate online exams because I have so many distractions at home that I just can't focus 100% of the time, compared to a dead-silent room with f2f classes.

In terms of my learning though, I think I still have the same-ish study habits as I did with f2f classes. I don't think I would've done any better grade-wise no matter the set-up.

When I was in college I loved that I could take online classes as well as in-person classes. BUT I feel like I was more likely to fail those classes, and I did fail a couple of them. I think it mainly depends on the subject and how confident you are in that subject.

i personally didn’t like online classes at the beginning because obviously i wasn’t used to as i’ve been doing in person classes my whole life. i thought it was hard to grasp information my teachers were trying to teach me and i’d hardly pay attention when i had so many distractions near me. but towards the end of the last school year, i got the hang of it finally. i still wouldn’t pay as much attention as i would in a school setting, but i tried my best especially since i didn’t want my grades to fall. it just took a lot of getting used to, but i definitely prefer in-person learning rather than online classes and i definitely wouldn’t choose online classes willingly

I don't really like them because I procrastinate WAY too easily. I prefer a classroom setting that forces me to pay attention. Plus, if I have any questions, I'd have a teacher to ask and guide me.
