Pinging/Tagging Feature on TBT

I remember suggesting a pinging system for TBT where you can @ someone so they'll be notified of your post/reply, just like in Gaia Online and Flight Rising. I didn't know if the same feature is available for vBulletin but apparently it is!

I'm not sure how implementing features work in vBulletin and if you really have to pay that much for a feature, but since we have the Advanced Post Thanks/Like that is around the same price as this one, I'm assuming it is possible to get this one as well in the future, or if not, maybe gather donations for it if enough people are interested?

While this feature could be abused (like people pinging site leaders repeatedly), it would be very useful in TBT where there are a lot of users active and new threads are being made every day.

Spoiler: examples on how it could be used

People here regularly hold Smash or Pokemon competitions, and pinging would make notifying someone that their match is about to start easier. It would also make Cyclers in VTP have an easier job in notifying lurkers, Artists in Museum Shop notifying someone that their slot is open, in The Cellar for prodding inactive players, on Brewster's for continuing conversations (as people tend to reply and don't look back), etc.

I know PM/VM exists, but when you want to notify someone in a large group, or just want someone to notice but not enough to send a PM/VM for it, this feature would be very useful.

What do you guys think?

I've used it on other forums and while it can be useful sometimes, I don't think it should be a high priority item for the staff. You can PM multiple members at once, so I don't think tagging a bunch of users in a post is really a necessary feature. I think adding a post-reply notification would be more useful than adding a user tagging feature.

Flight Rising has this and I really like it. Easy to ping a bunch of people in a thread if need be and a good way to notify within thread so the thread creator doesn't have to PM/VM someone. It's super convenient.

Would this apply to replies just to you or to anyone who has posted in that thread? Pinging is nice because it's user-specific. I know I don't want to be notified if ANYONE replies to a thread I've posted in.

bumping this because i see some people mentioned they want a notification feature for quotes, maybe this could do the trick
