I don't think it's the same scene you're talking about, but I remember hearing about another translation controversy from that show. Iirc another girl was hitting on the main character (also a woman), and the MC in the original responded with "but I'm a woman", which just shows that she's confused by another girl flirting with her... and then the English dub made her outright say she wasn't into women??That was hugely expected out of "localizers" who spent most of their time on Twitter and not doing their job as translators properly. The worst part is that they sometimes inject their "politics" in a game/show/manga that doesn't hold the same values as the West (That infamous dubbed version of the Dragon Maid scene about fashion for example.) and it deviates from the original author's intent. All we've asked for is proper translation from the original author's intent in writing that said media.

But yeah, translation isn't about whether or not I agree with the viewpoints a character expresses or not (which may or may not even be the same viewpoints as the writer's!!), I just want it conveyed to me as accurately as possible, so I can form my own feelings on the scene/character/story. I can't do that if I'm basically reading AU fanfic.
