- Change flower beds to themed layouts.. trying to pick themes and arrange flowers is hard
- Fill in museum area

It's July on Pomelo! That means...

🌤 The end to rainy season is in sight, a relief as my flowers are constantly threatening to take over my forest-y northwest of the island. I like the simplicity in searching for new flowers to dig up, but I get anxious about missing one--is that just me? I notice myself feeling more reluctant to log on when it's raining too. We need more indoor spaces to hang out with villagers

New bugs and fish, like this cutie The bug-off has been one of my favorite events and I find all the new beetles actually really hard to catch. After my rampage into completionism last month though, I'm content to slowly find new creatures over the span of days in July. Completing the museum is definitely one aspect I don't time travel or go online for.

Diving, of course! I knocked out at 10 last night so when I logged in at 6 this morning of course Nook's was closed and I had no wet suit lol. I met Pascal today and I think he's very cute floating on his back. Still trying to decide which wet suit and snorkel I like best. I think I'll go the wet-suit-as-underwear route, in response to nobody's question.

This week's visitors were Leif, Label, Saharah, Flick and Kicks, although I only managed to really talk to Flick. I finally sold all the extra creatures hogging up space in my storage and commissioned the majestic Great Q.A. Birdwing model. I'm excited that the new update means the visitor rotations have been mixed up. In other news, I'm also waiting for one of the villagers who's given me their photo to ask to leave because I'm ready to let my babies find their next adventure..

Kid Cat asked to move out this past weekend.

I was going to wait until I moved someone in to post this but I'm actually really sad right now! It was much harder to let him go than I thought it would be, even though I had been preparing myself for this.

Kid Cat moved in in May and he made me realize how cute the cats are, especially with his expressive ears and crazy eyes when he gets overly excited. I accidentally gifted Kid Cat a synthesizer when running through the Resident Services plaza one day to my exasperated amusement, and it sealed my love for him. He gave me his photo pretty soon after, because he is the best boi.

Side note: I gave him away online and it was very rewarding. It was my first villager exchange and I was nervous, but I think I'll do that for the rest of my island in the future too.

I'll probably go island hopping tomorrow rather than time travel today. I only want to use about 20 tickets so if I don't find anyone at that point I'll amiibo or find a villager online. Will update later!

Villager Hunting

Not really looking for any villager in particular today, I just want to be surprised.

11am: 5 tickets

First ticket was Kiki on bamboo island. She'll be soo cute wandering around the island after dark but I think I could get her at another time if I want her more in the future. B-tier: you're fine.

Klaus was on curly island and he's also visited my campsite before. I find the bears kind of nauseating in general, although the Roman theme is unique and I like his bangles. Not the worst bear but D-tier nevertheless.

Found bamboo island again, this time with Pierce. I don't like birds in real life (lol) and don't really like the eagles either. Pierce is an eagle is an eagle. He's fine. C-tier.

Snooty was on a normal island. She's a Japanese-themed, snooty, pink anteater. She's alright. C-tier.

I found Caroline on my last mystery island! I love her enthusiastic eyes and crazy colors. She's a normal villager but she'd make the perfect peppy. B-tier.

1pm: 5 tickets

Curt was on spiral island. I think part of it is that the tops look like they're too small on the bears and Curt's belly is popping out without exception. Not one of the better ones. D-tier.

I've never been to hardwood island before! Angus is one of the bulls I don't like as much. His eyes are a little wide and his orange hide (?) is bright, making him look goofy all around, but not in an appealing way. I went back and forth between C- and D-tier but I think Angus ends up in D-tier because I definitely feel some aversion there.

Monty was on curly island. Why are his eyes so sallow.. and his expression so repressed.... I think he might be F-tier, I'm sorry

Next island was spiral island, and Broffina was on the second tier cliffs. I don't really like the chickens all that much but Broffina is so classy. Look at her perfect lipstick, her mascara, her comb (I had to look that up), her dress. She's seriously lovely. I didn't think I would have such nice things to say about her! Surprise B-tier.

I found Norma on my 10th ticket. She's a sweet cow, and I didn't realize until I saw her but her hooves are blue! She's fine. A cow's a cow. C-tier.

I know I'm rating a lot of villagers negatively so I just want to re-affirm that all villagers are precious and if I play ACNH in perpetuity I would invite all of them to my island eventually. That time is not now.

2:30pm: I can't focus on work so I'm gonna finish this now — last 10 tickets

I've run into Soleil on a different villager hunt before. Soleil is Soleil. C-tier.

Bones is an average dog. C-tier. (I'm getting lazier and lazier with these descriptions)

Ruby is based on the moon rabbit, a mythical creature which appears in many Asian folklores. I love that there's something cold about her, although she's not one of my favorites. C-tier.

Ran into Pierce again on my 14th ticket.

I love Octavian. My friend has a theory that someone tried to spear Octavian like they speared Zucker, and that's why he has the band-aid on the back of his head and why he's so angry. I think I'd take him if I didn't have Zucker on my island already. B-tier.

I try to get an impression of every villager but my impression of Rizzo is totally off. He's alright. C-tier.

Gigi is fabulous. Her catchphrase is ribbette! C-tier.

Ran into Ruby again on my 18th ticket.

My friend has Cheri on her island. She's alright. C-tier.

All villagers are precious, but Rodney desperately needs to be groomed. F-tier.

Island hopping and writing this up was fun, but I'm fatigued now. I originally wanted to invite a villager from a mystery island but I'll probably find one online.

Quick update, because: Ankha moved in! She's exquisite. I thought she was fine, but having her on my island, talking to me, is different from hearing about what other people think of her.

In other news, Gulivarrr washed up on Pomelo's shores this morning. I'm excited for the pirate set. The secret beach is pretty small already so I have to resist the urge to keep adding more things to it. It's supposed to be abandoned

OOPS

So this happened yesterday...

Someone was giving him away in a smaller community I'm a part of, and although he's not one of my dreamies—for someone who wants to experience as many villagers as possible, it was too valuable to pass on a villager who doesn't have an amiibo and is so difficult to adopt online I time traveled to get an open plot, and who would ask but...

I'm not a total monster. Even in my flurry to tt I still visited him before he left

Sweet Marshal, whom I adore. When he first moved in I just thought he was regular-cute, but I love everything that comes out of his mouth and couldn't resist talking to and visiting him all the time. He taught me smirk. He was always just outside his house sweeping the end of the block while I ran around doing morning chores. I gifted him a superhero mask which he wore all day for one day (haha), a shell wreath which went perfectly with his beach-front house, and when he asked for my sea bass one day.. I COULDN'T HELP IT, I sold it to him, and he displayed it shamelessly right by his doorway. lord. I just can't say no to him.

Sadly he hadn't given me his photo by the time he left, but I'm sure it won't be his last time living on Pomelo.

Raymond is cute. He's formal, like I am, even when he warms up to you. Seeing him walk around town is a little unreal. I don't know how long he'll be here, but I'm excited to see him interact with other villagers and catch him unwittingly lost in his thoughts.

Here I am following him around town, since he won't let me give him gifts yet or talk to him non-stop...aaand he caught me lol.

Well, there's your peek at my town center, which is just as you get off the airport (you can see the path to the airport by the hyacinth patch).

Morning & Chill

I've been wanting to do this kind of post for awhile and when I woke up at 6:14 this morning, I decided today would be the day. I'm proud that I didn't arbitrarily time travel to make this post (no shade for anyone else who would), although it was a tempting idea because I don't know what I'm doing when I'm half-asleep

This was a lie, I didn't run into any of my villagers this morning

My house is on the upper left-most side of the island, so my natural morning routine is to meander across the forest cleaning up weeds and flowers, looking for fossils and shoo-ing away other threats to the island's wildlife, before snaking down the left beach and through the rest of town.

After making my way across the forest, I tail back to my house and take the stairs to the beach. Side note, I'm debating whether or not I want to change the type of incline here. Here I am, picking up shells and making a cursory sweep through one of the villager neighborhoods, where everyone's curtains are still drawn.

I regret not including a picture of the Resident Services area, but it hasn't been raining and the garden beds have been behaving. I didn't find any new tree bugs this morning but I did catch my first giant stag last night. More pictures of me making my way across the island:

Look who I ran into! I didn't disturb him because I had more to do, but not before pausing to take a nap at this sanctuary. I was getting sleepy in real life again.

Blathers, on the other hand, was already asleep. The guy keeps to a strict schedule.

Assessing fossils is the last thing I really do in my first run around the island. I considered diving, talking to villagers and finally waking up Gulliver after I finished my morning chores, but I didn't want to commit my entire early morning to Animal Crossing. I think that's my best way to play, if the goal is island life—not force myself to get things done every session, but go at the pace I'll find the most enjoyment in.

August days

it’s Leo season. Celeste bby was wandering around Stonehenge at sunset today
overall, July was a serene month. I settled into a comfortable rhythm of bug catching, swimming, and villager gifting. Kid Cat and Marshal ventured away from Pomelo, and Ankha and Raymond moved in. I caught a few sunrises and was judged by 3am music only once (that I’m willing to remember). I stopped hawkishly scrounging online for trades as I realized I was okay with not completing the mermaid/pirate series in the first month. I didn’t really watch any island tours and realized decorating isn’t the aspect of the game that draws me in.
that being said, can we talk about the update for a sec?? Visiting someone’s dream address is so different from flying in via DAL or watching it online. With dream suite, I can go wherever and take as long or short as I want, familiarize myself with each island and pace back and forth in the areas I enjoy best. I don’t have someone leading the way, regularly bump into random furniture and experience framerate drops in real time. It gave me tons of inspiration and revitalized my dreams for Pomelo, which I want to share more updates of in August.

My hazy August afternoon update

Inspired by the launch of dream suite, I've been redecorating large swaths of the island. I didn't take dedicated before and after pictures, though I wish I did, because I kind of dismantled everything in these areas not expecting to make much progress, and then two hours later everything looks completely different. I'm still not sure what's gonna stick but I'm pleased by the general feel so far.

RS during the July bug-off vs RS today. Marshal and Vivian are devotedly creeping up on the bluebottle while Jambette is literally only here to dress up for the event lol. I love her. I added borders to RS because Paths Are King.

The saddest part of this outdoor cafe to the left of RS is that none of my villagers ever hung out here. They completely ignored it in favor of the flower fields everywhere else. That's what makes this photo with Phoebe so special. I ended up removing the cafe completely and shifting the gardens upwards from near Nook's (below).

Sunday evenings: I love em.

Real-talk: in the last week or so I've been time traveling within the week like crazy, ordering items for a catalog island, buying art from Redd, hoarding materials and avoiding my villagers, who have been sending out feelers to leave the island. I'm super burnt out at the moment so I think I'm gonna take a break, tidy up a little, maybe visit some dream islands—I just want to stop running around my island for a bit! Nevertheless I'm grateful and glad I was in a position to do so this week, and simultaneously glad this isn't normally how I play the game.

2021 update (alternatively: No Longer A Completionist(?) alternatively: I Enjoy Planning Things)

Goal: finish my rural Japanese mountain town as the colors deepen throughout autumn, so I can walk around and enjoy island life
