Possible Characters That Could Be Cut

Animal Crossing: New Horizons looks and will be very different from New Leaf. Because of this, we could get many new characters while also losing some old ones. This is not for sure, but definitely possible. What characters do you think may not make it into the game?

I think that Leif might won't make it into the new game. I'm not sure though.

I’m thinking a lot of “secondary” NPCs (Leif, Shrunk, Gracie) will be cut, possibly I could see Nat and Chip staying as I feel like the tournaments would fit pretty well with the setting though these could be taken over by Tortimer (island tours style).

Isabelle is gone because she's getting Smashed.

Lyle is gonna be replaced by his niece (can't remember her name)

Gracie is gone and our boutique is gonna be run by Labelle...

Now now, every character will return in the game. We have no info on how they'll return, after all, its only the beta.

I don't think they'll cut anyone. I think you have to unlock them though and build up your island to a certain point, for the NPC's. All the villagers should make a return, there's no real reason to cut them down.

Harvey. His role is very small in NL, compatriots to all the other animals.

Also the birds from OK Motors, if Pocket Camp NPCs count.

Gracie and Shrunk have been around since the beginning IIRC. So Gracie definitely ain't leaving. And emotions are officially in the game, so we still get Shrunk.

Yup. They did not fit in the Animal Crossing universe. Please Nintendo, we don't need cross-over items from other franchise to be content with Animal Crossing. No need for crutches.

I wouldn't worry about Isabelle or her brother. They have not really shown much, yet. I'm confident they (and Leif, Kaptn and Resetti) will be back.

I think they will all return. I just think it?s something we have to unlock. Who knows it may be in a different place that we have to travel to.

Exactly, I doubt they'd make the amiibo cards go to waste with how much Nintendo pushed on them. I'm thinking we could invite folks like we did with Happy Home Designer & Welcome Amiibo.

I feel like they'll all be in the game in some capacity - maybe they'll have a special NPC tent spot where they can appear, similar to the RVs in NL. When expanding I'd expect we get the choice which order to install the shops.
