Hi, I hope everyone is enjoying New Horizons!
I love the game, but I have to say it feels like it's missing a handful of things. I wanted to make a list of some things that I think (or hope) will appear later on, possibly in updates from Nintendo.

  • Leif: I think Leif will return with his gardening store at some point. I think he will bring bushes, and also sell all the flower seeds (not just a handful of seeds like the Nooks sell). We know the models for bushes are in the game, because we can see them next to our house and in the museum. Nintendo knows we loved the bushes, I am certain they'll be back!
3/26 EDIT: Leif is confirmed to be coming back next month for Earth Day! Unknown as of right now if he'll be a permanent npc or holiday only
  • Brewster: We already have hints of this from people looking at the update data. It seems that Brewster will indeed be returning, which means his cafe will be back! There is space in the upstairs of the museum that looks like it is made for expansions.
  • Gyroids: Again, this is likely confirmed based off the current game data we have. I believe gyroids will be back, and I think Brewster will have something to do with them. He loves the things and collects them, which he has mentioned in previous games. Maybe he will introduce us to them. I believe we will also have a storage system for gyroids again, possibly through Brewster (like in City Folk) or possibly a museum exhibit.
  • Redd & Art: Speaking of the museum and its extra space, I'm sure Redd will return with his fake art. We will take it to Blathers and he'll decide to open an art exhibit.
  • Kapp'n: There has to be a reason for the little dock on your island. In the past, a dock has always meant the presence of Kapp'n, and I'm sure it does this time around too. Maybe island tours will be back too, and the tropical island with Tortimer? Who knows.
EDIT: Apparently this "dock" is a pier where you can catch specific fish. So maybe no dock and no Kapp'n? Hmm
  • Nat: There's a photo of the old chameleon in the empty laboratory in the museum's bug exhibit. I think he will show up and "research" in there. Maybe he'll sell silver/gold/other nets? On a similar note, perhaps Chip will return and work in the fish exhibit of the museum, and sell fishing rods.
  • Reese & Cyrus: I refuse to believe they aren't coming back. Yes we can customize on our own, but people are noticing that there are discrepancies in item colors. For example, some islands have a yellow lighthouse item, while others are red. It can't be customized by us, so we must need further help with customization projects.
  • Perfect fruit: This one might be more of a stretch, but I am wondering if perfect fruit become available once we reach a perfect town status. I hope so.
  • Shampoodle: We will definitely get more hairstyles and hair colors. Probably contacts and eye colors too. Harriet will hopefully be the one to do this.
  • Nook Store Upgrades: There's no way we'll have Nook's Cranny forever. We have always had store expansions.
EDIT: At least one upgrade is confirmed! Thanks RisingSun. Still hoping for more.

Those are my thoughts for the time being! I think Nintendo knows better than to not add these features, I just think things will happen over time rather than all at once.

What do you think? Are there any characters or features that you think will be returning?

I hope you're right with your predictions! It'd be a shame to lose all of the things that were present in New Leaf and earlier games. I also hope more exotic fruits will appear at some point and the ability to go diving/swimming!

I have seen upgrades to nooks cranny in previews, so that is a given. The dock is actually called a pier and you catch certain fish from it. I had it rain my island and there were no gyroids, so not sure of their return. I do think there is room for expansion to the museum. Oh, and nook’s cranny do sell flowers other than the ones grown originally on your island. My home flower is windflowers, and I had hyacinth and tulip in my shop this morning.

That is good to know about Nook upgrades and the pier, thanks! I guess that explains why I can only find sardines off the pier lol.

My Nook store only sells hyacinths (native flower), tulips and pansies. I've never seen cosmos, windflowers, lilies, mums or roses in there. I think they all sell only three set types

I have hope that gyroids will return in the future!

I think it's an absolute stretch to predict that many old characters are coming in new updates. That being said, here are my extreme takes. I think there's going to be an additional location to fly to from the airport, more custom clothes types (like dresses and skirts especially,) and either additional villagers or one set of a new species added mid-game.

Hoping for more interactive furniture. Like the wells actually move and such when clicked. I think they moved previously? Not sure, but Id love to see more interactive objects! :) Make it feel more alive

Let's Go To The City - New Horizons edition.

I'm hoping we'll be able to visit Tortimer's island. If Harv gets his own island, why can't Tortimer? Presumably the minigames will come back, too.
Acorns are seasonal items in this game I'm pretty sure, so Cornimer (and therefore Tortimer) will likely return.
Also, having other NPC islands would be a good way to add in cut NPCs without things getting too crowded. It's more of a stretch than Tortimer, who already had islands, but it'd be cool if you could visit Rover or something.

Leif is confirmed for the Earth day update after Bunny day later in April, as the actual Nintendo Dircet Mini showed. Take a look, you will see some news about Bunny day as well.

I'd like continuous updates, but I worry what we'd have to pay for it in return. People still work on both New Horizons and Pocket Camp, I don't think Pocket Camp can cover the cost for both games anymore. I'd expect like 1 DLC a year putside of updates.

And I think if it goes like that, they'll also listen to what people want. I can see anything happening tbh.

So far, there is no word of DLC that will cost money. As long as there is no official news or clarrification from Nintendo about ACNH, take news about DLC with a huge grain of salt.

I doubt they could do DLC in a game like this, considering how many people visit each other. You’d have to restrict people who don’t pay for the DLC to only play with others who don’t pay.

Exactly. Besides, if you would visit someone, who has the DLC, it would conflict and possibly not allow you to go there in the first place. I believe that those are simple free updates like the one now for Bunny day, which will come and go like the game goes on.

I never thought of that.
Hope the upates will be free.
We will see

I would be really really surprised if the pier wasn't where Kapp'n would appear and take you off to another Island for, at the very least, the multiplayer games. I really miss the multiplayer games. My fiance and I both have the game with our own Switches so this would be a perfect way for us to play together.

i don’t think that would stop nintendo from launching dlc, they do it with practically every game now. they can update everyone’s game so that there’s data for dlc exclusive villagers/furniture, but they could just make it that only those with the pass can obtain them (villagers can’t be invited, items can’t be dropped)

Here's the trailer in question:

I think this is a bit of a stretch but if you listen carefully, he says "The update will add new features including an Earth Day event". So Earth Day won't be the only new feature added and there may be more? It might be the stuff found in the datamine that someone dumped on Twitter a few days ago, it may be more, or I might just be overanalysing.

With a pre-recorded presentation though, the script is worded carefully to not be misleading so I'd like to think Earth Day is not the only thing added in the late April update.
