Problem: The island is unlocked in my town, but only by the mayor, not by me.

Not sure how to fix this or if there is a fix. Is the mayor the only one in your town who's allowed on the island?

On the 3rd or 4th day of gameplay Tortimer will arrive at your dock and tell you about the tropical island he has retired to. The following day Kapp'n will show up with his boat at the dock. So please don't worry. You'll be able to go to the island, tomorrow.

Your 3 other characters have to pay off their 39,800 bell mortgage before they can visit the island.

Well see my brother is the mayor and he unlocked it. I've already paid off my first loan and am expanding my actual house (not tent).

Then you should be able to go to the island tomorrow.
