Prologue-
I was falling, falling, falling. I had no sense of time or place as I was falling to my certain doom. Darkness shrouded the space around me as I fell. All I could feel was the burning sensation in my legs and the air speeding through my hair as I was falling. Suddenly, I remembered no more.
So you wanna hear my story? It's not a happy tale full of princesses and happy endings. Oh no! My life was like a normal kid's until two weeks ago when it all happened. My life was shattered in one simple moment. It all happened when I arrived home from school one afternoon. I stepped onto the carpet of my New York city apartment. My dad was normally at work and my mom would be home tidying up the house or baking chocolate chip cookies. Not this time. The lights were off and there was no familiar whistling from my mom. Just silence. I shrugged this off thinking she was at the store. I slowly opened the door to my room when a I heard a noise behind me. I spun around but nobody was there. I heard it again but it was coming from my closet. I peeked in there but it was just the usual stuff in there. I felt a hand on my shoulder and screamed as I looked at the face that belonged to the hand. It was an old man with a cloak on. His large brown eyes produced warmth that said "Fear not. You shall not worry while in my presence." He spoke to me saying, "You have been chosen for a purpose. You are needed to redeem the world from it's darkness. He touched my forehead and whispered "I grant you the power of water. Guard all things aquatic and harness it for yourself." He handed me a slip of paper with instructions written on it. "If you wish to do so you must follow these instructions to meet five others like you with the powers of fire, earth, air, showdow, ice and light." I closed my eyes for a second contemplating my fate and whether or not I should trust this man but when I looked up again he was gone. I had to decide to follow his instructions or not. I was curious so I quickly snatched a cab and rode to the destination. It led me to an old run down warehouse building on the east side of town. I thanked the cab driver and went inside. To my amazement the building wasn't so run down after all. There was computer equiptment everywhere and there were five kids just as the old man had said all scattered about the room. I walked up to the closest one and said hello. "Yeah what do you want?" was the reply. I told him I had followed a amn's instructions and was wondering what to do next. He smiled and said, "The name's Kyle. Nice to meet you!" He held out his hand for me to shake.I grabbed it but jumped back. It was scalding hot! I yelled and it attracted attention from the others around. A girl walked over and scolded Kyle. "Kyle, you know better than to pick on the new kids!" She glared at him then turned to me. "He's done that to all of us. Kyle's the oldest member of the team." "May I ask what's going on here?" I asked. "You don't know?" she asked in suprise. I shook my head no. "Well, we have been chosen to harness elemental powers to help save the world from the clutches of our parent's captors. Each of us has their own powers. I can use the power of light to create light barriers and summon lightning. Kyle is the master of flame and heat. He can supercharge his body heat or shoot lava out of his hands. Over there is Eric with the power of air. He can fly or control wind gusts. On my left side we have Sarah.She can instantly create ice and freeze anything at will. Jason has the power of summoning shadow creatures to do his bidding and last but not least is Stone. We don't know his real name so we just call him that. He has earth's elemental power so he can create mini earthquakes and hurl boulders. Stuff like that." I looked in astonishment at them. Was she serious. "S-Show me." I meekly said. Eric looked at Kyle and said "He wants us to show him. Keep in mind we haven't discovered all our powers yet." Eric started slowly floating off the ground. "That's enough for me!" I yelled. Now I bet you're wondering what I did next. I'll tell you! I was getting as far away from that freak show as I could. There was no way they wanted me to join them. A flying kid? Who would have thought? I ran all twelve block to my apartment. It was still dark when I opened the door. The girl had said something about my parents being captured. I sat dwon on the bed and cried.
