I'm sorry if this has been posted before.

Anyway, I saw this on one of the Kapp'n islands and it got me wondering if Nintendo hacked the game somehow to allow it on Kapp'n's islands or if it is just another of those hidden features I had no idea about it. So, I decided to perform a little experiment. I laid down a sand path near my house and then buried a coconut near my house. A few days later, a coconut tree did indeed sprout. I'm not much of a designer myself, but I hope this helps anyone who is who has been needing to know this kind of crazy feature in order to make their wacky design idea a reality.

Here's the result of my coconut tree experiment:

May be a cartoon of text that says 'Tree on the mainland'

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but couldn’t you do this anyway? Like, I remember having coconut trees on the mainland (and I remember because of that pesky sand under the tree). I wasn’t sure about planting them on mainland, though, because I’ve never tried that. I always planted them on the beach and moved them to the mainland by eating a fruit and digging the tree up. If this is about planting the tree, disregard this lol.

I'll perform another experiment without any path to see if the sand path actually makes any difference for planting and growing the tree. It's been so long since I've cared to have coconut trees off the beach that I forget what all you can do with them. However, I swear you couldn't plant coconuts off the beach in the past iterations of Animal Crossing. However, it does actually make sense for this game since the setting is a tropical island.

Edit: It seems based on other reports of this, growing the tree only works on the sand path, but I'll still perform the experiment because I'd like to see it for myself. I'll also experiment using other tiles now that I think about it.

We could do this pre 2.0. MANY people did this to achieve tropical summer or egyptian islands! Its been around FOREVER. but thanks for pointing it out again! This will help people who did not know before! It only works with sand tiles on grass!
