Question about HHP and a second Switch

My wife and I just got a second Switch so that she can create her own island from scratch in ACNH. I linked my Nintendo account, which I paid $24.99 for the DLC outright (not in the expansion pass for Online). When we try to start the game up for the first time with her new account she receives an error message stating "Downloadable content cannot be played." Is this just an issue with trying to start the game for the first time with the DLC or is it something else? I hope we don't have to pay for the DLC again.

Oh dear. I hate to tell you this but your wife needs to have her own account in order to play the game. Since you said that "linked" your account its only you who has to play the downloadable content since you own the game while she doesn't. The thing is the order for this to work you need to create a new character on your island so that way she has access to the Happy Home Paradise content.

If it sounds confusing it is. For me I own 2 copies of the game, 2 switches, and have 2 separate accounts that both have online memberships so I was able to play the update just fine, but when you have an account that doesn't own the game and you share it it does cause confusion. The only way to fix it is to deresister your main switch. and then create a new account on the new switch then she will be able to play the game despite her not owning it, but she will have to use an Internet connection in order to play the game, without it then the system will check to see if the software could be played online.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

Hey all!!
I know theres alot of confusion on this but i need it just put infront of me
I have my main switch with my account and the online membership and paid dlc this switch has the physical copy.
Now i want another island, i purchased switch lite. So now do i use the same cartridge as my main to have a second island and still able to keep the data thats on that island?
I dont want to have to purchase another online membership or the dlc again. I just want to be able to play between the two not at the same time. Do i buy another copy whether physical or digital and create another account or link the one i have on my other switch ? Please help
