I'm getting a second Switch by the end of the month and planned to keep the Nintendo account I'm using right now, which also has the digital version of NH as well as being connected to my NH island, on my current Switch. However I would like to transfer my current island to the new Switch so that I can make a new island then on my current Switch. I know you're able to transfer your island from one Switch to another, but I'm still kinda confused about one thing: Do you need on both Switch consoles the same Nintendo account to keep the island or can you transfer your island to another (new) Nintendo Account? Because the new Switch will have the physical version of NH (which I wanted the whole time) and I would prefer then to play my current island on the new Switch.

Hey, I just did the transfer thing last weekend. It's super annoying, just don't delete your save file on your old Switch until you're sure the island is available on the new Switch. You can always redo the steps if something went wrong, I had to do it twice.

You can easily transfer your old data of everything else through the consoles. It'll tell you that you can't use your Nintendo account on your old Switch anymore, but that's just a lie.

Anyway, you will need to create a second Nintendo account and use a secondary profile on your new Switch that will use that Nintendo account, but you can delete the profile on your Switch once you're done. The reason you need a second Nintendo account is so that you can download the Island Transfer Tool for your secondary account.

You will need to start the program on both Switch. Your primary account will send your Island Data on your old Switch and your secondary account/profile will receive the Island Data on your new one.

Once the transfer is done, you have to start the game on your new Switch with your actual account and profile. You will then get a prompt when starting the game that the game found a save file and whether you want to "take it over". They make it sound like it's not just your resident and stuff, don't be scared by that. It's just weirdly phrased.

If you can play your island on your new Switch, you can delete the secondary profile from your new Switch. If it didn't work, just try again. As long as you don't delete the save file on the old Switch, you can log back into your Nintendo Account on there and try a million times.

The process should be straight forward, it's just annoying that the eShop needs another account.
