Hi there. So heres my situation. I'm getting a new Switch and I plan on transferring my profile and saves over to the new switch. It seems like you can transfer your island as well. Only I am not particularly interested in doing so...lol. I have a younger sibling who plays Animal Crossing on the old switch and I want him to be able to keep the island because I'd rather just start over as I havn't played in forever while he still keeps up with the island. He would be taking over the old switch in a sense. The thing is my account that I plan on transferring that is the "Island Representative" as well and this might cause issues...I'm almost positive you can't change who it is so I can't make him it unless they added that in a patch recently... What I want to know is there a way to retain the island on the old switch while simultaneously moving my profile/nintendo account to the new one? (i have no desire to bring my island or animal crossing save to the new switch, but I do want my profile/account/saves of other games on there). But i'm not sure if the same nintendo account would be capable of having seperate islands/different characters??? I also have no issues with having to buy a 2nd game if required or if that helped things as I would probably be doing that anyway lol.

Your island is actually not tied to your profile, ACNH has always operated differently than other games that way. You would need to download and use the Island Transfer Tool to move your ACNH data over to a new Switch, but just moving your Switch profile won't cause that to happen.

As for if it will still be playable on your old device, it will! I assume you have a digital copy since you're asking this? If so, you'll probably be making your new Switch the "primary device" on your Nintendo account, which just means the older (now "secondary") device will only be able to play ACNH with a wifi connection and only your profile (the one that purchased the game) will be able to play it. Hopefully that makes sense -- Nintendo has not made transferring islands and profiles the easiest thing to understand lol.

thanks a lot for the reply! sounds like the island should be good. 🥳I have a physical copy. I'd probably end up buying another one if I wanted to play simultaneously with my brother as I buy all my games that way lol. sounds like it makes things less complicated here too 😄
