question about moving characters between switches

i'm bad at explaining things, so i'm sorry if this doesn't make sense

basically i've now got my mum's old game & switch because she doesn't play it anymore and i wanted to reset her island
however, her character has a LOT of diys and catalogged items

is there a way i can temporarily move her character onto my main island on my switch
reset her game
and then move the character back onto the new island on my mum's old switch

and if i can do that, will she still have all the diys, nook achievements and catalogged furniture etc?

I'd love to know how to do this too. I'm glad you asked this. I would love to be able to reset an island without losing DIYs by moving the main character temporarily.

If the character is the resident rep, there's no way to separate them from the island. Otherwise other player characters can be moved to another switch, there's a proper guide to it here:

You can move non-Island reps between islands (which keeps all personal progress), but only non-island reps.
