question about qr machines

does your house have to have the first upgrade in order to unlock the qr machine??? bc one of my secondary files that i'm trying to get the machine on is currently a tent and sable isn't really saying anything different except for "..." and then mable says "sorry, she gets like that when she's busy" or s/t and they've been saying that for the past two days now i think
this was longer than i expected, sorry if it was a long read n-n

I don't think you need any specific upgrades. You only need to talk to Sable once every day for 10 days (consecutively), I believe, and the machine should be unlocked. (Talking to her more than once in a day doesn't really do anything, though.)
