Question about the 10th villager moving out?

So, is it true that if I have 10 villagers and one of them leaves, nobody will randomly come to my island and take their place even after they leave? Because I've read that you have to bring the 10th replacement in yourself either via the campsite, trading online or island tours.

For me, I had 10 villagers, and then Gayle moved out.
Two days later, Marina moved in randomly.

Not sure if it's like this for everyone, but that was my experience!

Do you visit your friends' islands or go to islands' online? From what I understand... if you have less than 10 villagers... but an open housing plot... no one will move into that space until you either invite them to your island from a Mystery Island Tour or the campsite. But, if you visit people's / friend's islands online... you sort of get a "dump" of their villagers. At least that's my personal experience (getting my boyfriend's old villagers) but I've heard of people from online trading getting villagers from other people like this too.

If anyone has less than 10 villagers and an open housing plot available... and has not and does not visit people's islands online (or locally - i suppose) AND do not invite anyone via campsite or islands, please let me know. For a long time, that was my experience but I have since soiled my game via online trading and visiting my boyfriend's island. But i believe that is how it works.

Thanks for sharing! I also have the same question as the poster above haha did you play online after Gayle left? And did Marina by any chance say she was coming from _____'s island or something?
