Heyo, so I asked my mum for an iPod touch this Christmas and it looks like she might actually be getting one hehe.
buuuuut,,,
she says that if the iPod touch can't text her Samsung phone then she probably won't get me one : P

Sooo I was wondering if anyone knew? Is it possible for an iPod touch to text a Samsung phone using regular text? I suppose if it's not then I could download some texting app, but my mom probably wouldn't be too happy about that tbh

Thanks for anyone who took the time to read lol

The iPod Touch does not have cellular capabilities, so no, you likely would not be able to text your mom from a traditional phone number with your own area code. There are many apps that give you a number and allow you to text, though. I know when I used an iPod Touch 10 years ago, I used an app called textPlus that allowed me to text my friends and family. The only caveat is that you need to have a WiFi connection to do so.

No. iPod touches can only communicate with Apple devices, although you could try a third party message app.

iPods also don’t have SIM card slots, so I hope you weren’t planning on using it outside of a wifi network.

If you were looking for an inexpensive Apple product, I’d recommend the second gen SE, which is what I use. You can get 64gb of storage for $400 which is only a slight bump from the iPod, plus you get a recent phone with an amazing chip and cellular capabilities.

Can second this. I’ve had my SE for 4 years now and it’s worked well for me!

The iPod Touch can only send iMessages to other Apple devices and it requires wifi. If you need something with true phone capabilities then I'll second the above comment about getting the new iPhone SE.

My cousins both got an SE about a month or so ago and they seem to be really good especially at the price they are compared to the other iPhones. I specifically suggested the SE to them as its the most affordable while still new iPhone and they were also the most similar to their old phones. The SE is also quite similar to the current gen iPod Touch only better.

The iPod touch is a great device, but like others have said, it's not a cell phone. It's still primarily a device for listening to already-purchased music, and Apple doesn't want it to be seen as a cheaper iPhone alternative.

If she wants to be able to text you, I agree with the others about looking into an actual phone that suits your needs, and possibly getting an SD card to beef up the storage capabilities to keep songs on there.

ahh thanks guys.
i wasn't exactly wanting a phone, just something to listen to music on/text the homieship with
guess i'll have to get a message app or something if i get one : P
