I have 9 villagers at the moment, with the 10th moving in tomorrow (her plot came today!).

The thing is, Harry finally announced that he was moving, is there any way at all to avoid him moving to my moms town? We wi-fi every day, and I didn't even know about the outbox thing before she accidentally got Hippeux from me (not happy about that I can tell you :p) and we really want to avoid her getting Harry as well.

Would it help if she came and talked to him when he is in boxes and just went with the "cool story, bro" when he says he hasn't decided where to move?

How many days would we have to wait before we are safe?
I wouldn't feel comfortable doing trades or anything on here either with a villager like Harry hanging around :S

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks for your time :)

I can't answer most of those but I can tell you the safest thing to do is to try to give Harry away to someone else... that way there's no way he can move to your mom's town. o-o

I have no idea if it would help if your mom talks to him and doesn't invite him to move into her town.. This would be interesting to know!

The only thing I can think of is seeing if anyone on this forum or someplace else wants to take him from you on the day he's moving. He just might be someone's dreamy, you never know!

I am going to post in the giveaway thread when he is in boxes, but I really dont think anyone wants him (which is kind of sad, because he is actually real nice :p).

Maybe I'll get lucky and mom gets a 10th villager soon so we'll avoid this issue. I'm still afraid I'll get Bill from her, and he moved out at least 5 days ago.

Aww Bill is kinda cute. Besides, you just said you will have 10 villagers soon so Bill won't be able to move in.

The thread on reddit about it says that the outbox is dumped the first time you connect to anyone, either wifi or streetpass. Assuming that is correct, once someone is in your outbox, if she only has 9 space, you'll need to connect to someone else first. If you streetpass that should work, or you could ask to wifi with someone who has 10 villagers.

Important: my friend discovered this weekend that a villager in boxes counts as an empty space! She had someone packed up and was all set up to invite her new villager in the next day -- but she streetpassed someone while the outgoing villagers was in boxes and got their villager!

That was amazingly helpful Snow! Thanks so much!
I wonder if I'd "keep" him in my outbox when streetpassing with someone who already has 10 villagers though.

I had NO idea a boxed up villager counted as an empty space :S I need to remember that.
I guess my best bet is to ask someone with 10 villagers if I can visit them then :)

According to reddit no, the first connection dumps the box. But I don't know if that's been thoroughly tested or not.

Specifically not inviting a moving villager does nothing to prevent them moving into your town anyway. I had Antonio for awhile because I spoke to him in a village where he was moving. I specifically did not invite him and he moved in anyway.

The surest way to avoid passing him on unwittingly is to get him adopted by someone who wants him.
