How long do you have to stop visiting other islands/being visited to stop getting voided villagers?

In NH the voided villagers stay for a loooong time, they can no longer be stopped like back in NL by visiting another town that has max amount of villagers.

My tip is just to NOT visit other islands, whether local or online, when you have an empty plot. If you're planning to visit someone else to adopt a villager in boxes, then don't go anywhere else before you do that.
If you plan to villager hunt on the mystery islands, do not go elsewhere. That's it :)

This is when paranoia pays off lol.

Think of yourself as social distancing when you have an empty plot :D Otherwise you're fine to visit or have visitors when you don't have an empty plot (I do a lot of trading and hosting and never had a random mover from friends' islands and planning to keep it that way!)

It isn't really a "how long" in terms of time, it depends how many villagers are in your move in queue. There can be up to 4 villagers in your move in queue and you would have to allow all of them to move in to your island before you could get a random move in. And of course you would not be able to play online during this time otherwise you would be filling the move in queue back up.

Good point!

I guess I'm just keeping it simple for myself, if I have an empty plot I don't go anywhere that day nor have visitors lol.

I haven’t been to another town in weeks or been visited and I still got a voided villager

I was thinking it was something like this. I just didn’t know if the queue disappeared after a certain amount of time. Thanks

I'd suggest if you have an empty plot, and want to hunt for villagers, just hold that day (until you find a villager you want) with some time traveling. Even if you're against TT'ing, this is the one instance where it will only benefit your enjoyment, instead of being forced to get a voided Rodney or something. (No particular hate on Rodney, he's just the easiest example lol)

Villagers stay in the void for WAY TOO LONG. One of my online friends got a villager I voided in the early days when the game came out. Literally months later they moved into their town. I have moved out several villagers since that one moved in (Octavian). I was also only at their town like once, maaaaybe twice.

If you don't want someone's voided villager, then your basically only option is to never visit islands, and never have anyone visit yours. Atleast in this game you get a one day buffer of having an open plot to villaver hunt, before a voided villagers will move in the next day.
