It’s obviously become easier with HHP and Cyrus being able to customize items. I’m wondering, if you are trying to complete the catalog, do you use Cyrus to customize everything for all the options for even the unusual, expensive items you may never use? I don’t want to go to the hassle and/or spend the bells, but I’m also a little ocd about having everything.

I've kind of given up on completing my catalog. At this stage, I'm more about buying something I know I'll use. Those may get customized by Cyrus, if I change my decorating colors up, but the only things I have to make sure to get now are unorderables.

Yeah Cyrus is making completing your catalog easier since before it was so annoying trying to get different color items because you had to go to someone else's island just to get that different color.

I agree that Cyrus makes everything so much easier. I’m so happy about it.
I don’t actually go out of my way for Cyrus to complete everything in my catalog.
What I do like to do, however, is browse the entire ACNH catalog for items I do like in certain colors, and save them and make sure I order them or get them in the color I want. Then I store it in case I want to use it later, or use it in my house or outside. If things are in a color or style I don’t like, I don’t bother with them. So in a way it’s compiling only the things I like and ignoring the other things.

I would've sought variations before 2.0 but with Cyrus, I consider my catalog complete if it has at least one of each item. I only customize items that I use, but when I get customizations, I do go out of my way to get all variations of the item.

i do. i’m trying to 100% complete the catalog and that includes having every furniture variant, even if i’ll never use it. it’s a hassle and certainly pricy at times, but i think the sense of completion when i’m done will make it worth it. :’)

I do kind of want to get a 100% complete catalogue but I do not know yet I am trying to get all the food DIY's then next all the crafting remaining DIY's.

While it'd be nice to have a complete catalog, I know that this will be a daunting task. I am concentrating my completionist efforts on the DIY. Also, my goal is to craft at least one of each of the DIY. Thanks to the storage capacity. I could do just that and store the ones I'm not using. For example, I crafted all the Frozen furniture when my main room used that furniture. It's not anymore, but I'm storing it away rather than sell it. Also considering that snowflakes are a seasonal thing.

Every new item from the 2.0 update is taken to Cyrus in order to get all the variants on the catalog. That way, I can easily control what I have, and I already kind of did that before (I took any new item to a crafting bench to see if I could customize it). Bells are not a problem, although I have used enough to stop receiving the maximum 9,999 interest lol It's indeed a nice late-game bell sink.

bonus that checking the nook link catalog and watching all the new variations pop-up makes the serotonin go brrrr

Completing the catalog is my ultimate goal on the game. Not going to really 100% it since I'll always lack photos and posters of all NPCs and residents, but I'm fine with those being mia.

I'm trying to get a full catalog (may or may not include photos, I haven't decided if I want to do that to myself) so every time I get a new item, I make all the variations, no matter how expensive. With seven characters and their money trees, I get more bells than I can use anyway.

My biggest issue right now is certain very expensive items never showing up in the regular shop and having no motivation to farm Poki for them.

Yes. I did use Cyrus to customize everything for every option. I had the time and the bells; it took almost three months. Now, what I need is clothing, which can't be customized, and is taking a lot longer.
