Question involving two switches and DLC

So I picked up another switch so a family member could play ACNH.
I have two switches, two copies of the game. I have the HHP expansion on my main, but not on the second switch yet.

Can I travel and visit the game that doesn't have the expansion? Are the limitations on items/clothing?

I'm kind of confused of what you mean
if you have two switches and two copies of the game yes you can visit your other island with local wireless play
if you are asking if the other switch that doesn't have the expansion can visit HHP then no you would need the DLC on that switch too
There is some exclusive HHP related furniture & a few clothing items that can only be obtained with HHP or via trading with someone else (and also the pillars and counters that literally can only be obtained via HHP and can NOT be traded)

If you have the Family Membership of Nintendo Switch Online then main Member can add so many switch profiles and each profile can download the DLC for free. If thr main member cancelled the subscription you would no longer be able to play the DLC. If you just want to visit each others islands then you can over local play. Your main Island character with the DLC can buy clothing on HHP and share DIYs with the non DLC family member profile. Hope that makes sense!
