Question on Villager Trading Plaza

I'm new to trading a villager, and today one of my villagers is leaving town. I wondering if can anyone clarify how does the trading plaza work, and when does a villager move a friends town?

when your villager is in boxes, have your friend come over and talk to the villager. then in a day or two, the villager will be gone from yours and into their town! hope this helped (o?ω｀o)
