Questions about Collecting Critters

Question 1: If I haven't caught a specific critter yet and I pocket one of them into my inventory (after it's been put onto the ground or a table outside), does it get added to the Critterpedia?

Question 2: Can a player visiting from a different town place a critter outside in the host player's town?

Question 3: Can you donate things to another town's museum?

If the answer is "yes" to all three, then I could complete my museum and Critterpedia by trading with other players!

No to all three. You'll have to catch all critters on your own and cannot donate things to other town's museums.

I'm sorry to say you cannot trade critters with other players. Unless if you had a 2nd switch and a 2nd copy of the game you could technically get a lot of critters from one island and then transfer that user to the other island so that way you have critters that you are allowed to drop and donate to the museum. Either way the answer is no you can't trade critters with other players.
