So, If you had to give this game a rating, what would you give it?

I would give it a 9 out of ten stars. With no Lottie, I would easily give this game a ten. She treats you like you are four years old. But I enjoyed everything else. I like how when you touch the magnifying glass on the bottom screen, it will show you exactly what your client wants.

Probably the same rating (9/10), but only because I really wanted to be able to name a town and have that same sense of exploration as main Animal Crossing games, but this game is fun and relaxing. I really enjoy it!

havent played the game, but from what i've seen i'd probably give it a 7/10. when I actually play it i may change my mind tho, but as of now i think that's fair.

I think 8/10. Mostly because I want the ability to rotate items to angled placements, and I want villagers to communicate more. Not just in the design term but around town and such. Still love the game though! Haven't stopped playing since it was released.

man and I remember when people were acting like this game murdered their family

no rating from me seeing as I don't have it yet (will prob get around Christmastime... maybe for a bit of fun I'll have it be the same day as I got New Leaf)

hmm.. 7/10 for me.
While its hard not to compare it to new leaf, there's a few things that really bother me.

-no house of own (it would be cool if the final reward was unlocking a house of your own)
-can't change the work shirt.. I can't stand the look of it.)
-I don't like that when you tap an item, the menu disappears and I have to open it again for another item.
-I was hoping for the ability to invite friends over to your designed facilities. I know there's an online system similar to the dream suite in new leaf, but real-time play would be nice.
-no open map to walk around to see all the designed homes

Overall, for a spin off, I like the game alot. Its fun and cute. I hope they implement some of these features in the future series of the original AC series

tbh this is probably my biggest disappointment with this game. I'd have loved to have your own house/space to decorate with. I mean, I kinda understand why they didn't do it - because it would have taken away from the whole "designing villager houses" aspect, and players would've spent years designing their own house instead of the villagers - but like you said, a post game reward would've been a great way to implement this without taking away from the core gameplay. pretty disappointing tbh.

Hard to put a number to it, but I will say that for what it is, it excels. It could still be better, but I really like everything they've added, and I hope that it will all get implemented in the next non spin-off AC.

Is having your own house to decorate really that big of a deal when you already have the chance to decorate well over 300 yards/homes for villagers? I mean I certainly wouldn't say no to it but I just don't get why this is such a big deal to so many people.

Actually I really would have liked it... But I have a reason: In this game Nintendo FINALLY added a trumpet and saxophone, and I really want to have them in a house that is mine!

Yeah, I'm being silly. Whatever. I don't care. It took Nintendo way too long to add the most basic of brass and woodwind instruments, and when they do so and it comes in a game where I can't even have my own home I will be restless.

Strong 8/10. It would need the following for a 10:
-undo button
-more variety in villager conversation
-seasonal events
-personal house
-earn bells based on how much a villager likes their house (they 'like' certain series/colours/etc which would boost their 'like' score)
-small 'town' portion where you can catch bugs, fish, dig, and see more villagers. This would be where seasonal events take place
-rotate furniture on angles
-villagers should be able to 'squeeze' past furniture, too
-season and weather should be independently changeable and not tied together on certain plots

probably a 7 or a 8 out of ten.
~ I'd like to be able to name the town
~ I wish I could walk around and see the houses I designed & how they all lay out together
~ I wish Lottie would shut up about a lot of things. (She's cute, but excuse me. I'm the main designer around this town.)

I actually like it a lot better now than I did when I first got it. I don't mind the I can't go catch bugs, or things in New Leaf... But the walking around and checking everything out would be nice.

Oh, they better include the whole where to place things in the next main series game. It is sooo much easier than dragging it around. Would be perfect for PWP too because you can actually see how much space something takes up.
So actually I would give it an 8 for the ease of placing and designing things.

Thank you for all the descriptive, honest and helpful reviews! I think I will wait to pick this up used.

I'd say that for me, Happy Home Designer is an 8/10 (ACNL is an 11, of course! lol).

I am enjoying it a lot, especially now as more things are becoming unlocked. The mechanisms for designing a house are so convenient and well done - - just click on something and there it is! Or throw it away and try something else.

On the other hand, I do wish that I could actually walk around the residential areas of town and enjoy looking at the houses, and so on. It feels like I design a house, the villager is ecstatic, and instantly I am swept back to Nook's Homes and it's time to end the day. Sure, I can go back to the houses one by one, but it would be nifty if I could just walk around and see who is next door to who, and so on. It just feels a little disconnected in that way. Also I wish we could fish, because I find that to be a great stress reliever.

I'm actually really fond of this game. So it's a 9/10 for me. It's just so charming and I was honestly skeptical about purchasing it. But I'm so happy I decided to buy it Friday. It's a spinoff game, so it doesn't have all of the aspects of a main game entry of the franchise, but you do still get to visit them and have some interactions with the villagers.

Oh, and they can wear dresses and hats. That won me over.

8/10.

IMHO, I think this game is a test run for future editions of Animal Crossing. If this feature ends up being really popular, don't you think that's something they'd incorporate into the next full Animal Crossing game?

For what the game is and is meant to be, it's pretty great. Whatever small complaints I have, well I can go play ACNL for that if I want. But the graphics are really pretty in HHD and I love being able to design an entire house at once. The only reason why I give it 8/10 instead of 10/10 is because quite honestly I love ACNL so much more because of the wide variety of things to do. As HHD is just to design homes, it satisfies its purpose. And if this really is just a test run as one more part of the village to customize in future games, I love it!

I expect this game to be a 7/10 (New Leaf is a perfect 10).

Really looking forward to getting it this friday! :)
