Rare......Wood?

I have noticed something about the wood you get from trees. It seems that one of the three ends up being harder to find. I have tested this in the past, and it is usually a different wood. For a while it was Hardwood I had trouble getting, and now it's Softwood.

I would love to know if it's real or I am just unlucky.

I imagine it's just random, even though it doesn't seem that way. For me, regular wood is harder to get. To the point where if I get a tree that gives 3 regular wood, I'm ecstatic.

I feel that!! It always seems to be the type of wood I'm looking for specifically haha. I'm sure it's just rng but still.

I have trouble getting regular wood most of the times, except the few times that I’m seeking other wood (then those seem to disappear).

For me, it’s always “Wood” that I struggle getting . I have whole bundles of Hardwood and Softwood, but I don’t use my stashes that often. I’m ALWAYS running out of Wood, then when I go to farm it, it’s very rare (like 1-2 every other tree, but sometimes I get lucky with 3 straight Wood chops.) Idk if it’s coincidence, but I think in general Wood might be harder to obtain than Hardwood or Softwood.

it's probably just random but man am i struggling with finding enough hardwood, it was really bad when i was trying to make enough country fencing for my island. i have several stacks of wood and softwood just chilling in my storage and like...no hardwood lol.

it isnt random. ive found this happen in both of my islands. the first one was hard wood light, and this one is soft wood light. i think the game does it so youre forced to visit and trade with others. its annoying, especially since not everyone has online capabilities.

I can second the comments of a few others on here! Regular wood seems so difficult to get a hold of on my island! Yet I cannot ever truly get rid of all my softwood - I've taken to making DIYs that require softwood- like the decoy ducks in Abundance just to lessen the stacks I have

I'm wondering if people who think it's not random are looking at how much wood they have overall, because all the items I make seem to only need normal wood. So I'm always running low on that type, where as I hardly use my soft wood so my stock pile of that has grown large.

I usually struggle to find wood anywhere on my island as I find so much of the light and dark wood. I’ll cut down heaps of trees and only get dark or light

Maybe it just seems rare because there's a 2/3 chance you'll find something that isn't wood PLUS wood may be more common in recipes so you're using more of it.

My storage seems to be drowning in softwood. Regular wood seems the rarest for me, but on the other hand it's also the one I use most for my recipes. I do think it's just rng/luck based.

It might just be random, but I’ve been using NMT to farm on the islands for Wood and found that out of the 10 tickets I use, I’ll usually get 100-120 Wood, but at least a third more or double more with Hardwood/Softwood (I’ve done this several times, probably using 50+ NMT.) I definitely use Wood more for my furniture making, and I also think most of the “staple” DIYs that people craft a lot with use Wood, too, so it’s for sure a combination of things.

If it’s random, I have terrible luck . But one person above also mentioned a theory that maybe certain islands give more of one wood, or less of another, in order to force that online interaction/trading. Idk if it holds any weight, but it’s interesting to think about.

I think regular wood is still the rarest of the three. There are indeed times when softwood or hardwood are rarer, but looking at my storage, regular wood is still the one understocked, and I hardly craft anymore.

I always seem to get sognificantly more softwood than anything else, followed by hardwood, then regular wood last. I definitely agree there seems to be a difference, but wood is also used in a lot of recipes, so that could definitely make it seem like you get less of it, since you're likely to use up more of your stock.
Honestly, I REALLY wish Nintendo had just assigned wood types to tree types. Like, the colors already seem to be set up that way. So why am I getting dark wood from palm trees?

I definitely agree. I get more dark wood then anything else. Regular wood seems to be the most difficult type to find for me.

i honestly haven’t chopped wood in ages, but regular wood has always been the rarest for me as well!

i still remember during the game’s first few months, i would always have a surplus of hardwood and softwood but would only have like,, 3-4 stacks of regular wood.
