So, I say this today and posted it: ( http://www.belltreeforums.com/showthread.php?58529-I-ll-leave-this-here...&p=1192025#post1192025 ) and it left me wondering, why the **** are christians SO obsessed with doomsday theories and how were ALL going to die because a big man in the sky 'proclaims' it.

I don't believe for a second if there IS a god he'd want to wipe us all out from history for petty reasons, or because one half of the population doesn't believe in him or follow his ''teachings''.

I'm guessing you're asking yourself HOW is it these people come up with these theories? Is it just a case of blind men in a room surrounded by candles speaking tongues and babbling prophecies?

No. It's alot worse.

They try to use MATHS. This is the 100% TRUE calculations which people have done to predict the end of the world:

The majority of arguments, or biblical "proofs", in favor of the May 21st end time have come from Camping. A civil engineer by training, Camping states he has attempted to work out mathematically-based prophecies in the Bible for decades. In an interview with SFGate he explained "...I was an engineer, I was very interested in the numbers. I'd wonder, 'Why did God put this number in, or that number number in?' It was not a question of unbelief, it was a question of, 'There must be a reason for it.
A commonly cited argument in favor of the May 21st date is:
1. According to Camping, the number five equals "atonement", the number ten equals "completeness", and the number seventeen equals "heaven".
2. Christ is said to have hung on the cross on April 1, 33 AD. The time between April 1, 33 AD and April 1, 2011 is 1,978 years.
3. If 1,978 is multiplied by 365.2422 days (the number of days in a solar year, not to be confused with the lunar year), the result is 722,449.
The time between April 1 and May 21 is 51 days. 51 added to 722,449 is 722,500. (5 × 10 × 17)2 or (atonement × completeness × heaven)2 also equals 722,500.

To me, it just sounds like someone has way to much time on their hands and is reading **** to literally. I can probably make a formula which says that today is going to be our last day, simply by adding up numbers from the bible and dates. If this turns into our doomsday, why would it be so mathmatically based? God is up there now with a calculator saying "THIS is the day I shall do it! BECAUSE I LOVE MATHMATICAL EQUATIONS!!" That's like saying I decided to eat breakfast this morning because I divided by Pi to get the exact timing of when I will eat it.

Alas. I just hope it's the day God comes down and tells these morons to stfu, certainly make my day.

That doesn't explain it. Just adding up random figures in certain ways doesn't mean that is when he'll come back. You can't get me to believe this, and it doesn't explain anything. Half of those numbers were taken randomly out of nowhere. The Bible says NO ONE will know when he is coming back and it also says that He will come at a time least expected.

Again, I am SLANDERING this, not agreeing with it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Harold Camping and his cult commits mass suicide on May 22nd. According to CNN, almost everyone in his group has sold their house, cars, and spend their life savings so they can go around and spread the word that May 21st is the end. I don't see how they are going to live with themselves on May 22nd.

I don't see why people are so obsessed with doomsdays. It's really depressing and probably not mentally healthy. I can't believe that people are actually looking forward to someone coming out of the sky and destroying the entire earth in fire.
