I'm considering resetting my town and was wondering if anyone has any opinions or past experiences to share ? I'm weighing up the pros and cons and I'm still not sure. Every time I reset in Wild World I regretted it, but maybe a fresh start will be good .. ??:)
anyway,

pros : new map (i HATE my current map, it's so awkward)
I have a friend who can hold bells and furniture for me
replacing the permanent pwps (my campsite im in an awful spot)
I can plot reset properly, i really don't like my current villager house placements

cons : empty catalogue
all unlocked shops on main street gone
I have a few of my dreamies (could probably get someone to hold them though)
tiny baby town tree (not a huge problem i guess)

opinions ??? any help much appreciated :)

I put off restarting my town for months simply because I had 8/10 dreamies already and had done a TON of work on it. But most of my houses were in bad places and I came to hate the pathways I had put down. When I restarted around 2 weeks ago I felt so much better and I had the opportunity to get a really good map, plus now I know how to plot reset I can build everything accordingly.
Honestly the shops don't take too long to unlock. You get the QR scanner after 10 days of talking to Sable and as long as you keep on buying stuff from all the stores every day they'll upgrade and open pretty fast. Plus if you have someone to help you, you can transfer your current bells and any items you really want to keep over c:

Thank you for replying ! Restarting sounds very tempting now ;D I guess it wouldn't take that long to build everything back up, and hating my current map and villager placement really sucks.. I always consider resetting once every few days and it's getting annoying ! thank you for helping :)

Yeah, I totally agree with Shika. I restarted fairly recently. I loved my villagers (they weren't dreamies per say, but I'd grown very attached) but after not playing for a while Tangy moved out, all of my flowers died, and things just felt stale. So after I got everyone's portraits as a keepsake, I restarted and got a much much nicer map that I'm still settling into.
The shops were fine, I got those back quite quickly, but things I didn't think about at the time were the QR machine, all of the bugs/fish I'd collected from previous seasons, all of my patterns (I hadn't saved the links so I lost those, and the pattern's I'd created could no longer be edited because I only had a QR code for them), and that you can't order furniture with the first Nook shop.
I saved everything I realistically could, including Bells, NFS items, things I wanted in my new house, portraits, etc. etc.

One thing I'd keep in mind though is that it's nowhere near as fun if you take all your old stuff over. My new town I called Skyhill and had a very cushy life living off my savings from the stalk market in my previous town, and honestly, it was so boring. I never had to catch anything, sell anything, buy anything because I just had all this money, tools and furniture already. I put down a fair few PWPs and expanded my house a fair bit before I restarted AGAIN, this time into a town called Sleeping. This time I left all of my old stuff behind (I actually made a new character on my sister's game to hold it all just in case I needed it, but I understand not everyone has that option) and it was so nice to start fresh and not have everything already done for me. Now I have to go and hunt beetles at dusk, I appreciate every expansion to my home and it gives me real satisfaction seeing my villagers enjoying PWPs. >w< But that's just me, I thought I'd bring it up just as a warning though!

Thank you for taking time to respond ! I'm still undecided, but I have a gut feeling that I'll regret it in the end so maybe I'll stick with my current town. As much as I want a fresh start I would miss my villagers and all of my progress ! I might just completely re-landscape and see how i feel. Thanks again ^-^ !

No problem! ;u; I wish you luck with it all and hope you find a way to be happy!

If you have the urge to restart your town, if you can afford it, get a new copy! I am definitely getting a new copy if I can save up, and just having fun in that town! I have fully expanded house in my current town, Camellia. I always have the urge to restart my games for some reason. So I'm getting a new copy and the town will be called Fine Oaks. should probably work in that town name. Anyways, just stick to what your gut says, and hopefully you'll take my advice :)

What, you wanna fix all the things that go wrong?
You wanna snap your fingers and erase your screw-ups?
Sure, who don't?
I mean, pssshh, I wish I hadn't dropped outta dental school.
Good money there.
I REALLY wish I hadn't washed my white boxers with my red sweatshirt...BUT!
Is turnin' the power off without savin' gonna change any of that?
...Of course it ain't, punk!
That kinda thing only happens in video games!
In REAL life, in the REAL world, it ain't happenin'.
And that's normal. Hear me?
That's the way it is, right?
It's takin' whatever comes your way, the good AND the bad, that gives life
flavor.
It's all that stuff rolled together that makes life worth livin'.
Turnin' the power off 'cause you didn't get an item you really, really wanted?
Or tryin' to backtrack and avoid some kinda sticky situation?
That's PATHETIC!
C'mon, Rachel.
Stop playin' like that.
Stop LIVIN' like that!
I mean, grow up, will ya?
You're better than this...
You know anybody who's got a perfect life?
'Course not.
'Cause nothin's perfect.
So I'll say it one more time and hope you REALLY hear me this time...
Mistakes and disappointment make the sweet things in life that much sweeter.
You gotta take everythin' life throws atcha.
Roll with the punches, hear me?
Deal with the consequences of your actions, 'cause life ain't no video game.
You feel that irony, punk?
Aw, for the luvva dirt...
What's with the face, punk?
You think I need that look?
You got that how-long's-this-guy-gonna-keep-yappin'-at-me face. Yeah.
Well, wipe it off, ingrate!
You're lucky I ain't MORE mad, you dirty resetter!
Ah, whatever.
All this tunnelin' and barkin's got me beat.
I'm done with you, kid.
I'm cuttin' you loose.
But you gotta promise me, when you're don playin'...
You'll SAVE before you turn the power off! SAAAAAVE!
...You got that?
Oh, and before I forget, one last thing...
Wash your hands after you go to the bathroom!
We clear? Good!
Now SCRAM!

That's from resetti.

And remember. Bad times, are just times that are bad. :)

^^ haha awesome response.

For real though I reset last week and I'm very happy I did.

I restarted after a two years of playing NL, I totally don't regret it! I mean I got a great map and had a friend hold all of my sets/bells etc.

I reset fairly recently. I'd had my old town for around a year or so and had most of my dreamies and at first, I didn't want to restart. But once the idea is in your head, you can't get it out. So I took the plunge and restarted my town. At first, I was unsure of how I felt because I didn't have resources readily available like I did in my old town.

I'm glad I restarted, though. In my old town, I didn't plot reset and most of my villagers' houses were in horrible positions, and I also hated my town map with a passion. I got over the empty catalogue fairly quickly and am now having a lot of fun with my new town ^-^ I highly recommend restarting.
