So I woke up Christmas morning only to find out that the nintendo switch had fallen down the stairs somehow and was completely broken. My island was not backed up because I didn't know that was a thing until now. My family was really good about it and immediately bought a new switch, but the data wouldn't transfer. So now I have to restart. I wasn't planning to restart for at least another year or so and I'm honestly really upset about this. Are there any specific tips anyone has for getting over the disappointment of losing your original island all of a sudden? Or anything I should do differently the second time? My parents also said they would buy me the DLC once I thought I was ready for it in the game- do you have to get KK Slider to activate it? Anything else I should know about restarting?

Thanks!

I'm sorry your Switch got broken but I'm glad you got a new one.

As for your question, for the DLC no you don't have to wait for KK Slider to access it. I forgot when exactly it unlocks if you restart though.

When you restart, you have to have KK Slider to unlock the Roost, the Harv's Island shop expansion and all the new items on the Nook Stop like the ability to cook and the rest of the items like the new Plaza items.

This forum is a huge help when it comes to starting over an island. There are users on here that are super friendly and easy to trade with, so recovering items or villagers is much easier than one would think. I hope you get to enjoy your new island home on your new switch. It's not what you asked for, but I want to wish you all the best of luck. If there's anything I could help you with, please let me know!!

You can access the DLC once you have a house instead of a tent, I believe. :>

Sadly I'm only allowed to interact with people I know personally in Animal Crossing. My parents are pretty restrictive about that kind of thing. I do have the amiibo cards for my villagers. It will be hard to get items and diys again though.

Also, does the dlc work the same way like with Harv's island where you can only decorate with the items in your catalog? I'm wondering if I should just wait until I have more items

Oh I'm sorry about that - seems like a safe thing to do, so I don't blame them for restricting play to people you know by any means! It will take more time but now that you can get other color-ways and variants from Harv's island, it's much easier to collect items now even without other players.

I have only completed one job on HHP but I think they used items that I didn't have in my catalog. Like the items the villager requests specifically, I didn't have cataloged - but was able to decorate with. I'm also interested to know if it uses the rest of the items from my personal catalog or not.

Again lots of good luck to you! I'm sorry for your loss of your previous island.

I’m so sorry to hear your Switch broke and that you have to restart!

In Happy Home Paradise you are definitely given items to decorate with that you don’t have in your catalogue yet. Since you will be starting fresh, it would also help you to accumulate more items by decorating in HHP. You get paid for decorating in HHP, and you can then spend the currency on items being sold in HHP. At least with HHP, you’ll have both Nook’s and HHP to shop with. 😊

Very best of luck starting your new island!

Is it just the required items that you get and then you have to use stuff from your catalog?

You eventually unlock everything you've cataloged on HHP once you reach a certain point. But otherwise you unlock furniture with each villager, even DIY and recipe stuff even if you don't have it crafted yet.

In each house, there is only 2-3 "required" items that you have to use, and the rest is completely up to you! They give you a large variety of items for you to use to decorate, a lot of which you won't already have in your catalog. 😊

It's always 3, though once you get to a certain point you can tell them I have some ideas, and just do whatever.

It can definitely be two. I’ve decorated for Whitney and Apollo, and they each only required two items. 😊

Huh, weird. I've always had it as 3, sometimes one of them is an outside item. Though I like it that they added the option to let you just do whatever once you do so many homes. Some of the themes they want are just dumb, like Lionel wanting a toilet house.
