I invited Marty to my island recently. But i noticed something weird. He doesnt seem to react to my reactions. Usually, villagers tend to react in a certain way to different reactions. Marty either doesnt react at all or he just smiles (think its the "happy" reaction).

Has somebody else experienced this? Im hoping it just some technical issue with sanrio villages that will be patched later on.

Huh, my Etoile is reacting the same as me. Maybe you’re just unlucky with how Marty reacts?

If he's a recent move in, it's probably that he's not at a high enough friendship level with you yet. Give it a little longer and see what happens.

Reactions are based on social levels - there are low, medium, and high (this is determined by personality and subtype). The easy way to tell what a villager's social level is by looking at their wave when you leave their house (link).

Marty is a lazy type (with a medium social level), so in theory, he should copy the player's reactions sometimes, but it is also normal for him just to smile back at times.

Marty is a lazy type A (with a medium social level), so in theory, he should copy the player's reactions sometimes, but it is also normal for him just to smile back at times.

I actually didn’t know this! Thanks for posting, I learned something new today 😮

Thank you so much for this helpful post. I've been struggling to find information on what personality subtypes the sanrios fall under, and this helped me figure it out myself!

I thought this was the case and went to say as much earlier.
But the source I could find said they were a medium social level so should react so I ruled it out. Didn't realise medium meant maybe
Learnt something new today!
