I'm pretty new to TBT and I usually trade on reddit so I have a few questions about the protocol here, specifically pertaining to the sale/auction of villagers (and other things, I guess).

In the short time I've been here I've had experiences where a trade is agreed upon but then the buyer goes MIA, or someone bids on an auction and then withdraws it before the auction ends. I know the rules clearly state that the winner of an auction must go through with the trade, but I didn't see anything specific about the 'legality' of pulling one's bid. I've seen this happen to others' auctions too. I feel like this shouldn't be allowed, but I'm also unsure because the rules don't explicitly mention anything about it.

I'm just wondering what should someone do when they're in this situation? Report? Leave negative/neutral feedback? Both?

I would say no to leaving negative feedback, because last I checked, that feedback is about the nature of the wi-fi connection itself, how reliable and stable it is, as well as the nature of the online encounter. In other words, you can't submit a review for something that never transpired to begin with, though there should be some way of securing rules and warning people to stay away from repeat offenders.

Right, but if you look at the Auction rules it clearly states: "Winners are obligated to complete the purchase after they are determined to be the winner. If he or she backs out of the transaction, the auctioneer may leave negative feedback."

I'm wondering if it's against the rules to withdraw a bid before an auction is finished, and thus not 'technically' being the winner. I didn't leave negative feedback when this happened to me, but it's a bit annoying when something like this happens and I'm just wondering if it's a commonplace occurrence and if so, why isn't it more regulated?

yes, you should leave feedback, because its also saying how reliable the person is. if they re-sell a vil after you won it, you should give negative feedback.

no the feedback is not for the wifi connection lol its for how they were as a host/visitor. if they obeyed your rules then you can give them positive feedback, but if they didn't , or scammed you or sth, then you either give them neutral/negative feedback.

its has absolutely nothing to do with the stability of the wifi connection

as for the thread, if the buyer goes MIA or doesn't respond, you can give them negative feedback for not going through with the auction after winning.

It's to do with the sells reliability, the rules clearly state that you may leave a negative feedback.

I'll make this a little more clear. Thank you for pointing out that it's not as clear as it should be!

The auction rules state that winners are obligated to pick up the villager but the only time someone is considered a winner, is if they have the largest bid at the END of the auction. Therefore, they may withdraw their bid unless an auctioneer specifically puts in their thread in the OP BEFORE bidding begins something along the lines of "No withdrawing bids!" as an auction rule. If they withdraw after an action ends, then you may leave a negative feedback because that would go against the obligation rule.

Please let me know if you have any more questions! I hope this clears things up for you :)
