I recently began watching MischaCrossing's Stardew Valley let's play, and fell in love with the game. Too bad I don't own a system to play it on. But I have heard that the Harvest Moon series was similar; and there are Harvest Moon 3ds games. So I was wondering if you guys who had played the games enjoyed them, and if so which one to get. I would enjoy one with a designing feature as I loved that in Stardew Valley.
And if the games aren't any good, what games are? (Maximum price 25 usd)
I was a big fan of Harvest Moon before I got into Stardew Valley on the Switch. Harvest Moon is still definitely worth getting if you can?t get Stardew Valley. One big tip to note though is the true continuation of the series after 2012 is now called Story of Seasons. The localization company basically split off from localizing the Japanese games to making their own while still using the Harvest Moon name and they really aren?t very good. Harvest Moon: A New Beginning is the last true game in the series with the old name.
I have played several Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games and I quite enjoy a lot of them. The 3DS ones aren?t the same as older ones in the series but I still have really enjoyed them. I suggest going with either Story of Seasons or Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns on 3DS. They are the newest games in the series and don?t suffer as much from some issues the earlier 3DS games had in my opinion.
Personally though, of the games I?ve played I like Harvest Moon: Animal Parade the best. I managed to pick it up for about $20 online brand new. If you happen to have a Wii or Wii U (yay backwards compatibility) I highly suggest picking up Animal Parade. It came out back in 2009 and has definitely aged a bit, it?s not the smoothest game and some camera angles are a bit wonky, but it has some really nice charm to it and has some great features that are missing in today?s games. If you don?t have a Wii or Wii U, as I said earlier the 3DS games are still good too.Feel free to ask any questions about specific games if you?d like I or someone else will try their best to answer you.
Thanks guys for the information on these games! I think that the game I am going to get is A New Beginning due to the large amount of customization the perfectionist in me desires and according to a reddit page has a ton of things to do! Just to be sure though is there any problems with it that you found?

Honestly the problems I have with it are fairly minimal and it shouldn?t be a problem if you start with it. It definitely has the most customization of the 3DS games though. Sure you can also customize your character and outfits as well as your farm in most of the newer games but A New Beginning is unique in the fact that you can fully customize the town too. Want to build your favourite Bachelor/Bachelorette?s house near your farm? No problem! Want to build a pretty statue or something? sure put it wherever you want.
I?ve played this game all the way through the story and the only issues I can remember off the top of my head are the fact that daily cutscenes aren?t skippable (like your animals being herded outside or certain shops opening). This can be avoided by just staying out of the area until the trigger time for said scene has passed though. There?s also a gardening tour event that happens once a month. In my opinion as well as many people this event is rather annoying and lame. It?s super hard to please the townsfolk and even once you do you can?t use the same stuff again next month. Sure you can just tell the Mayor you want to pass for the current month but that day still gets treated as a holiday if I remember correctly which is annoying.
Other than those few things though I quite liked the game. Not a bad choice for your first one especially if you are limited to the 3DS.
