So just wondering if I should get a new 3DS (coverplates one). I know the NX comes out somewhat soon, and people have told me that its going to be portable. Portable as in replacing the new 3DS? Do you think nintendos gonna stop making games for the new 3DS once the NX gets popular? I just don't want to spend 200$+ on a console im gonna have to stop playing if i want new games. Someone told me that its not worth getting a new 3DS with the NX on it's way, since it will also be portable. Veryyy confused

We really don't know if the NX will truly replace the DS, since Nintendo hasn't given us enough info to really make an informed decision one way or the other.

Personally, I prefer the DS. We know the NX is supposed to be both a home console and portable system, which while intriguing, I can't imagine it will have the battery power of a TRULY portable system. Plus the games already released for the 3DS gives it my vote.

But until/unless Nintendo decides to give us some more info on the NX, it's kinda like shooting in the dark.

Yeah I'm gonna wait on it until more info is given.

I've been tossing around the idea of getting a new 3DS as well but I always end up saying it's not really worth it. If your 3DS still works just great for you then there's really no need to upgrade. Same idea as DS Lite and DSi in my opinion. I never got a DSi after already having a perfectly fine DS Lite even though people who had them would brag about its new features. Sure enough a few years later the 3DS came out so I'm glad I didn't waste money on the newer but technically same gen system.

It's only worth getting a new 3DS if you A) have a ton of money to spend and nothing to do with it (I wish) B) Your current 3DS is broken in some way beyond being worth fixing or C) Not having a 3DS of any kind yet and looking to buy your first one.

I think if you have the money, save up for the NX. Who knows what NX games will and will not be compatible with the 3ds (such as the new Animal Crossing)!

you're really REALLY right, the only reason i want a new 3DS is because i dropped mine and the bottom plate thing is always hanging open, but it works, so the next reason is because the 3DS xl is so bulky imo it doesnt fit in my hands haha

From someone who has a DSi, and the New 3DS along with original DS and original 3DS, you're right, the upgrade isn't necessary for like 99% of the games, so it's not really a necessity unless you're replacing the old ones. Why did I get them? I like collecting! ;)

If the portable NX has a battery life similar to the Wii U gamepad, I'm going to be Angry™.

Nintendo has been trying to dispel rumours that the NX would "replace" the 3DS. It's very unlikely the 3DS will become obsolete anytime soon. The success of the 3DS will mean they will be making games for it likely for a while after the NX is released. Honestly, if your 3DS is in rough shape, I would look into getting a new one, or maybe buying a used 3DS XL. The circlepad thing on the New 3DS is really only needed in a handful of games, so if you're not planning on playing Xenoblade Chronicles or you don't really really really desire to play SNES games on virtual console, I would say the most expensive 3DS on the market isn't really needed.

Even if you were planning to get the NX as soon as it came out, as far as I know there's no promises that it would be backwards compatible for the Wii U or the 3DS. IMO that could be why they're trying to calm down the rumours that the NX would shove aside the 3DS. Like a "please oh god don't get rid of your 3DSs".

Honestly, I wouldn't get it (I know for sure I won't buy it). This "new" console of theirs is not worthy in my opinion, since it doesn't feel like a "new" console at all but rather a 3DS upgrade, that's all.
If you are one of those who must buy anything just because is the newest in the market, then go on, it's your choice. But in the last years Nintendo has been throwing a bunch of useless "versions" in my opinion, and the New is one of them.

Yeah, I mean sure it has better processor and can handle like either SNES VC or Xenoblade, but otherwise you run as fine on an old 3ds or 3ds xl. Tbh it seems to me they really try selling it by all means. I mean do you really need that for SNES games at all? I could understand you might need an upgrade for maybe N64 or GCN games cause they are heavier to some parts, but SNES; really?

And yeah they are horrible overpriced for that little thing here as well, could as well get a SNES and some games I want for the matter, and I don't think I will buy the Xenoblades game anyways.

I had a 3ds XL and I recently replaced it with a New 3ds XL and I kind of wish I hadn't cause there's not really much difference to it. So I would stay just stick with the 3ds you have unless it's like broken or something
