Should I give up trying to find Megan?

I've spent over 100 Nook Miles Tickets trying to find Megan, the Amiibo-less normal bear villager. I am wondering if my bad luck is due to the current villager lineup on the island. Here are the 9 I have at the moment:

Colton- smug horse
Raymond - smug cat
Reneigh - sisterly horse
Flora - peppy ostrich/flamingo
Monty - cranky monkey
Bluebear - peppy bear cub
Audie - peppy wolf
Mitzi - normal cat
Grizzly - cranky bear

Is the game not showing me Megan on mystery islands because I already have a normal and already have a bear? Also, I have no snooty villagers or jocks. Or, is it just chance that she hasn't shown up yet?

Villagers on your island and missing personalities do not effect what villagers you find on mystery islands, it is just bad luck!

I hope you find her soon, but she also sometimes appears in the new neighbor network so I would keep an eye on that as well.

Just keep trying You'll get her eventually, I'll ping you if she shows up for adoption!

Check the boards regularly, you never know who will be avalible

Take it from someone who struggled to find Raymond. I used up 800 nmts and I gave up, because there was no way I would find Raymond. That is until I went on Nookazon and someone who wanted 400 nmts for Raymond, I was able to get him, because the person was trustworthy. So my advice for you is to keep going and don't give up. Who knows she will appear on the campsite, during the time when I struggled to find Molly for 2 months and she showed up randomly on the campsite last year.

You can do it. Don't give up yet!

Like others have said, it's just luck of the draw. Mystery islands work by rolling for species first and then individual villager. The only part of the RNG your current villagers influence is that the 9 villagers you already have will not appear on an island. So if anything, already having Grizzly will help you slightly because if the game rolls bear, then you'll only have 14 bears to pick through rather than all 15.

It's funny because I've found lots of great villagers on mystery islands. It's definitely hard to search for a specific one--I'm passing on lots of cute villagers. But I could always buy an Amiibo for them or trade from one of the Amiibo shops since they are not as expensive.

The odds of you finding any specific villager on a mystery island are very low. If you're looking for a species with a low number of villagers such as an octopus, then you'll have something greater than a snowball's chance in hell of finding the villager you want, but even then it can take hundreds of tries if you're unlucky. So I'd quit the island hopping and either try the campsite method or adopt.

You’d increase the odds if you had more of the bears living on your island, but it would still be a stretch. It’s randomized by species first then by villagers within that species.

Anyways, OP, don't give up. The chances of finding Megan is (1/35) * (1/14), or 0.204% per island/MNT. The chances for any villager in a species is pretty low. Just gotta keep at it!

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate the info and advice! I found an inexpensive Megan on Nookazon (I have a bunch of items on the seller's wish list that I'm eager to get out of my overfull storage) and am supposed to pick her up tomorrow. We'll see if that goes well or is another Nookazon nightmare story. I haven't traded there in many months but I did succeed in finding Reneigh there with no problems a long time ago.

Yay! The Megan trade went fine and I was able to adopt her. She's a lightly gifted Megan but I don't mind since I was able to adopt her for less that way. I was hoping to keep checking mystery islands for her since that would be fun in a way--to finally find her--but I was also frustrated because when I visit mystery islands, I like to harvest some resources and I had to stop because my storage was full. (I have a secondary character for more storage but I've been thinking of deleting her so I can get rid of her house.) So, anyway, all's well that ends well.
