Decided to get back into writing again. If you can't tell, I get a lot of influence from stuff like George Orwell's 1984, Motorcity, The Protomen, etc. for my stories. Lately, they've been about dystopian-ish societies. So here we are. I'm a little rusty. Sorry about that.

Can you hear me, can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you?
Can you hear me, can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you?
It's funny how fast people will give up. One man comes along and promises them peace and a utopian society. He promises that their every wish will be fulfilled. The cities, rich with gold and the sweet smell of perfume. Everyone coexisting peacefully in a setting that can almost be described as euphoric. A feeling that makes you feel so high, that nothing could ever bring you down.
But my grandmother always told me, if you let Satan put his foot in the door, he's already in your house too much.
Men were on their breaking point. The world was about to explode into an all-out World War III. But then, amidst the mist, on the eve of battle, down the middle of the battlefield, a man came along. He held out his hands to each side and somehow convinced them to make peace. It's ridiculous, I know. But it happened. This man had united both North and South Korea, as well as the nations that sided with either of the two. Upon his suggestion, they formed one global union.
We were promised a city, rich with wonders beyond our wildest dreams. Instead, we were shoved into a dreary, Orwellian society, complete with state-of-the-art telescreens and "Peace Keepers". These so-called "Peace Keepers", or PK, were, in all actuallity, the government's hitmen. They were recruited from the armies of every nation and trained to "keep the peace any way necessary".
Now, you can't eat, breathe, or even so much as blink without it being recorded and watched. Every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every month of every year... everything caught on tape. No one would dare talk about our "illustrious leader" in a bad light. That was one of the worst offenses of them all.
There were legends of a beast or a machine or a man, The Ravager, who was the world leader's personal assasin. He would hunt down whomever he was told to kill and he would find them and kill them painfully and mercilessly. No one ever escaped him.
In order to build our "utopian paradise", all nature and wildlife was torn down and killed. What I wouldn't give to see a tree again... or a butterfly. Those are all distant memories now.
Some of us don't have to worry about all of that, though. See, some of us have built our homes underground in societies run freely. As dirty as it is, it's a better utopia than the one above.
We're in South Dakota, er, well, what used to be South Dakota. It is referred to by the government as Sector 81.7. We found, however, an underground city of some sort. Over time, we developed it into our own civilization. Complete with electricity, rubbing water, crops, and even artificial sunlight. We call it Old Dakota. Original, right?
Sunlight. Wow, it's been a while. The smog from the factories has made the above ground gray and dark. There is no sun anymore. Nothing grows, either. It just... is.
I suppose an introduction is in order. Call me Nocturne. Weird name, I know, but I like it! My friends and I are one of the many "gangs" (if you want to call us that) in Old Dakota. All of our parents are either "happily" living upstairs in the lovely hell of a city, or they're dead. I'd like to think mine are dead. Death would be much sweeter than what goes on up there right now.
I prefer the term family. That's what we are. We're family. We watch each other's backs, we care and love for each other, and we never leave anyone behind. Our goal is not only to survive, but to take down the man responsible for it all - Jebadiah Wright. Want to guess what his slogan is? "Wright is right! Jebadiah is always Wright!"
One day, we'll bring about a change in this world. We'll start a revolution. Just like any fire, the first thing you need is just a small spark to set things in motion.
