I have an idea for a NEW way to play Animal Crossing when the Switch title releases. As usual up to four players can live in one town (of course multiple accounts = multiple towns, but each town can have four player villagers)...but instead of one villager living in town at a time playing. Up to four people can live, work and play in their town together.

What do you all think? Is it time to increase the multiplayer functionality beyond just local/online multiplayer? Or should we stick to the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it?"

So are you thinking splitscreen? I don't think that fits AC exactly. Or if you mean all players having the same responsibilities as mayor or whatever, that could also work! However I do believe that this time since there are separate profiles there will be only one player allowed per town.

I mean like everyone in one town has the ability to play all at once. Mayoral duties would obviously depend upon who's the mayor (player or NPC). I wasn't really imagining Splitscreen when I thought of this thought lol.

How are you thinking it would work? If everyone on the same profile was trying to play all at once unfortunately it would have to be splitscreen because you can't use multiple Switches on the same profile at the same time.

Split screen for AC is not happening. Can't imagine they could render that.

There's no reason they couldn't render it since splitscreen is already a thing for other Switch games. It's just I don't know that it would work for this type of game. However, beyond the splitscreen limitation I like the idea of having different people in the same town play at once! It's just sadly not seemingly likely due to the limitations of this particular system.

I love the idea but having split screen seems so weird for this game. The majority of games with split screen are fast paced, action packed. Here, it's like being limited to what's around you.

I would prefer it more if they stick with it like how it is now. I don't know if something like this
would work so good on a game like Animal Crossing.

I've been wondering for a while if they'd ever add split screen to an Animal Crossing game. Back on AC:GCN, I remember my friend's whole family (of six, at the time) taking turns playing that game constantly. The Gamecube was almost always in use. At my house, if one of my siblings or I were playing the game, it was common that another of us would be watching. So, I imagine people would have utilized that feature, if available, myself included. With the Switch being a home console just as much as a handheld, it's not so far-fetched people would share the screen if they already shared the console and a town. Not every family will have a Switch per family member, you know?

I wouldn’t support split screens. However, I would like the other human characters in town to be NPCs if you’re not using them. For instance, in my ACNL town of MoonGlow, I have Andrea, Jordan, Morgan, and Holly. If I used, let’s say Holly for example, I should see Andrea, Jordan, and Morgan act like if they are regular villagers and chat with them as if they were villagers. I could also see Andrea instead of Isabelle in some of the events, rather than just seeing Holly and no other human character.
