In GC, befriending snooty and cranky villagers becomes frustrating, because you don't really see them warming up to you, even if you send letters, talk to them, do favors, etc. (looking at you Static)
But in NL, they sometimes feel so lifeless and emotionless, that even provoking them leaves you unpunished, which is just... unrealistic, and really actually boring, in my opinion.
Now don't get me wrong. I love that snooty villagers and cranky villagers are basically parental figures to us, upon befiending them.
So, to some extend, yes, I do think they should be mean to us again. This allows them to feel more lively and three-demensial.
However...
I would like to see them treat us differently, depending on our friendship with them. When we are just starting out on the befriending process, they should be mean to us, even GC-level mean. But as we build our frienship with them, we should start unlocking not-as-mean dialouge with those villagers, and as we get to the high points of our friendship with them, then, and only then, we can start unlocking the warm and loving dialouge that we love.
We want them to like us, but we want it to feel rewarding right? <333
It would be even better of they had motives for their meanness/rudeness that they opened up to us about if we have really high frienships with them.
. . .
So, what do you guys think?
